Default Two Keys in Car Simultaneously?

Hello all,

I've been a long time lurker and finally made the jump to get a 2007 IS350 with Luxury Package. Now I'm just waiting for the shipping company to dispatch a truck to pick it up from Illinois.

One question I have is: what happens when two keys are in the car simultaneously? I will carry a key with me, but I will also make sure that my wife carries a key in her purse. I take it that the seating/steering wheel/mirror positions are linked to the keys? My wife is considerably shorter than me so I'd hate to have my kneecaps crushed upon starting the car if it detects her key rather than mine.

dont think the key is linked to the settings....

the memory feature has 3 memory settings available by the door panel.....

The keys linked to the memory can be on or off individually. You could have yours set to link and hers not set to link.

one weird thing did happen in my 2011 is250 once.. i just got my spare key from lexus and when i parked my car at home and proceeded to roll up my window..
the window refused to go up! lol it would roll all the way up and then automatically go back down. it stopped acting up when i only had one key with me though.

Just make sure the wife takes her purse with her when you exit the car. Otherwise the doors won't lock. And as far as I know the seat settings are based off the last usage, not which key is used but I could be wrong about that. Never tried...

Today I had two keys on me, one was left in the car. I noticed when I walked up to the car and touched the handle it wouldn't unlock. I had to manually push the button. Once I removed the second key from inside the car, then I could touch it to unlock. Just thought I'd share that. lol

for those who don't know, for cars with the memory feature, you can link the individual setting to the key fob, so that whenever that particular key fob is used to unlock the car from the driver door, it'll automatically go to that setting.

to the OP, the memory seat etc is not automatically linked to the key fob. if you want that, you have to set it up to each individual key fob. instruction is in the manual. Also, since the feature is activated only when you unlock the car from the driver door, i think as long as your wife stands on the passenger side, the car will still detect your key fob as the one unlocking the car from the driver side and will go to your setting if you set it up to link to the key fob. anyway try it out and see.
