The rear view camera was not working right when I shifted into reverse this morning. I could see the rear view was still there but very vaguely. The view was mostly black with a bit white of the shapes of some trees, my driveway, etc. Navi was still working but I did not try DVD playback. After driving for a few blocks, I shifted to reverse again and the problem was still there. However, it appeared to be working again after I made a stop at the nanny house (engine was turn off). Since "rebooting" resolved the problem now, I hoped it was only a software problem.
I have ML with the system. You can see there are 2 vertical lines in the picture below. The lines basically moved from left to right repeatly.
I will keep monitoring the situation but if I do not see this again in 3 months (my warranty expires in 3 months), should I bring the car in to the dealer and show them the pictures (and video) of this problem to document first in case it breaks down after warranty expires?
If you take it in to get looked at (and you should, that unit is $2k I hear) Share here the fix action.
I have been having the same issue in my '06. It started right after my warranty expired (welcome to my life). I get that same screen with the scrolling (right to left) bar about 1x per month, maybe less frequent. And like you, if i turn off the car and start it back up, it works fine.
no, go get it fix before warranty is up. In the least, get it documented. You'll feel much better down the road when it does break and your left with a 2k bill
The rear view camera is now almost completely black as it just happened today. The old "reboot" does not seem to fix the problem anymore. I have tried 3 times today and same thing. From the past 2 years since the problem started, I have only seen this distorted image once every 6 months or so. I will keep checking for a few more days.
Anyone else have the same issue? Or have found a fix (replacing just the camera, etc)?
And yes, I brought it in to the dealer 2 years ago before the warranty expired. They noted in the work order but could not reproduce the problem as expected.
call up the dealership and see if they'll take care of it since it was noted before the warranty expired. but I think all it will need is just a new camera.
I had the same issue yesterday. I simply tapped a few times on the camera and it started working. Maybe there's a loose connection from the impact of opening/closing the trunk all these years?
