Default Rear Camera Problem

My 2005 GX470 has a problem with the rear back up camera. When put into reverse the picture is blurred. When contacting the dealer they state that this can be caused by corrosion build up and most likely won't be covered by warranty. Anyone else had this problem?

Yes, As I understand corrosion can form inside or around the lens causing a blurry picture or none at all. Mine looks ok from the outside but have not removed it for closer inspection. It seems to me that the camera would be designed to withstand the elements with out affecting perfermance.

Either way, corrosion inside or outside the lesnse, it should be cover by warranty. The lense is suppose to withstand normal use for the warranty period. The only reason why it would not be cover by warranty would be if it was damage.

Take a flashlight to the lens and check for clarity. The camera is a few hundred bucks so it is not all that expensive but I agree it should be covered under warranty either way. Don't base the outcome with just one dealership. Take the truck to another dealer and have them take a look at it. If they refuse (unless it was damaged or neglect) contact Lexus corp.

It should withstand the elements. The one on my '05 GX is still very clear after 52K miles. Either it's defective and needs to be replaced, or the only other thing that I can think of is if the vehicle is in constant contact with salt water or in a salt air environment, such as by the ocean, that may be accelerating the corrosion? Just a thought.
