i got an IS250 as a loaner n it was a noticeable difference in performance. It was still a nice car to drive. The look and sitting inside the car was the same. I think the 250 is a great car overall with an excellent combination of performance and fuel efficiency.

To be honest with you guys, most of my driving is city driving and I find it very hard to use the 306 hp that the IS 350 has...especially with my 2 year old son as my co-pilot most of the time. Maybe because it's also winter, but I have yet to really push the car to maximize the power. I would totally be happy with an AWD 250 and I almost purchased a 2010 for a great price. I think for normal everyday driving the 250 is a great compromise for safety, luxury, looks and relative speed. However, because I promised my wife that I wouldn't upgrade into another vehicle for at least 5-6 years...why not go for gusto!

Just yesterday I was thinking "wow this 250 awd really isn't as slow as all those CL guys said it was"

I think a bunch of the "250's have no power" guys are just a little crazy.

Sure it revs up high but that's part of a smaller motor. It has absolutely no problem passing, merging, and taking people off red lights. Especially with that super steep first gear.

1. because it's not that slow. this guy is comparing it to a turbo/supercharged evo...
2. 200hp in a commuter type car is perfect.
3. ppl like me want the luxury but want to stay within our means.

I don't think its that slow. Plus they don't make the 350 in Manual. Could it be faster? sure

if you want the same price range as the lexus is250 then you should have gotten bmw 328i. Its much faster than the is250 little bit lol get the new audi a4 and get some massive 250 pounds of torque

While the JZ motors are excellent, you're not putting one in a 2IS "cheaper" than this, unless you're very very good with engine swaps and your time is totally free and worthless. (and even then you'll have some lights on the dash you can't get rid of and some things that won't work)

Genuinely cheaper would of course be buying a 350 rather than a 250.

Last time I priced a 328i with options comparable to a 2IS it was more expensive than a 350, let alone a 250.

BMW pricing is insane once you get beyond a stripped base model.

BMWs are so common, plus there reliability is not great. I probably will keep buying Lexus for the rest of my life. The IS in NY is rare and plus its a LEXUS.

All seriousness its not that fast but you can sell it, trade it and get something better.

I have to agree with the OP. I thought I wanted a 3-series so I test drove some 328i's and a 330i. The 328's were noticeably slower but not terrible, the 330 was plenty quick. Then I saw a 250 on the lot and decided to give it a try. I loved everything about the Lexus over the BMW, in particular the interior (I personally despise BMW interiors, I think they're cold, unwelcoming, and plasticky unless you upgrade to the highest possible package) but I couldn't get past how slow it seemed. Definitely seemed slower than a 328.

After driving the Lexus and seeing what real interior quality was I couldn't go back to a BMW, so I found a 350 on a lot nearby and drove it and that did it; bought a 350 days later. My loaners though have been 250s, and I actually get worse gas mileage on the 250s than the 350s because I have to floor it to go places.

If you were flooring the 350 then you would be getting worse mileage than the 250 then. Does not seem to be a good comparision in terms of this aspect.

The question is why are you flooring it when you do not need to. It sound like you're looking for power which the 250 was not mean for this, therefore you got the 350.
