The question is why are you flooring it when you do not need to. It sound like you're looking for power which the 250 was not mean for this, therefore you got the 350.
seems like a fair comparison to me. He's just saying he has to floor the is250 to get the equivalent of driving an is350 semi-aggressive (ex: to pass other cars). In fact, such a comparison was made on top gear where they raced a prius vs. an m3, with the m3 getting the better gas mileage. I think gas mileage between the 250 and 350 is a joke of a comparison. it really depends on the driver.

I think the is250 is a great car for everyday use; i just think its a horrible car for most people on CL, because if your on CL, your most likely in the small percentile that enjoys spirited driving.

This is exactly what I meant (and props for the TG reference, that's the test I was thinking of). I was just saying that to drive a 250 as "spirited-ly" as I drive my 350, it required me to floor it more often to get closer to the 350's acceleration, and in so doing I got worse gas mileage on the 250 as opposed to the 350, which you wouldn't otherwise expect given their respective engine sizes.

That is all. I'm not making a judgment on the 250, other than saying I love everything about it except the power, so I got a 350.

It's not a good comparison, because if you did care about gas milage, you wouldn't be driving like that. Driving the speed limit (60mph) on the I-5, I can easily pass up cars going 55-65mph, without having to redline it.

As far as I know this is the only forum some members "always" argue/debate/have a beef between the two models. And each and every time, the only defense is mileage vs. hp. It's pure comedy!

And when you go to Lexus car shows...it's even funnier. I always hear some guy asking if the dude is rocking a 250 or 350?

I'm more into I'm more into performance with fuel efficency. Also have to consider that I came from a much slower car, like a 95 Corolla, then I moved to a 99 Solara - which was slightly more powerful than my 250 except it used more fuel. Plus, I don't need to be a Michael Schumacher to enjoy spirited driving for the vehicle I have, even thou it is nice to have a 350 however, I have no need for it.

Even wtih my Corolla, I did not have problems hitting the gas to pass people.

I even had an argument with a family member before I gotten my 250 about why I wanted the 250. It went along the lines of you don't need that, you just need a car to go to point A to point B, a Prius or Corolla is good enough, not a Lexus. I was like no, why am I going back down on HP when Solara was about 200 HP and IS250 is 204 HP. Solara being a bit more powerful because of the weight (lighter), but it was using a good amount of fuel compared to the 250 which used less. To me this was about equivalent HP with better fuel efficency.

Does the Solara use 87 or 91 octane gas?

It's 87. 3.0L V6 Engine, 18.5G (70L) tank, 4 speed auto-transmission.
Fuel wise (mpg): 17/20/25

Right, just because the 250 doesn't have all the horsepower, doesn't mean they're not fun to drive. I've had awd250 loaners plenty of times and it's a lot of fun taking them up to the limits on the back road twisties.

I hear you Dexterr. I picked up a used 250 based on price (less than 25k), age(2 yrs or newer) and mileage (less than 30k). It was like Zeuss himself aligned the stars just for me. The 350's were all out of range for my stringent criteria of maximum purchasing power I'm really liking the car though.
