On my previous car, I once left my keys in my jeans as they went through the wash which killed my keyfob.

Since there's no manual way to get into the car on a deadfob, what do you do if something happens like the battery in it dies?

 

hmmm I ran mine through the wash and it was fine. There is a rubber seal around the chip on the inside of my fob to keep it dry.

If you're batter dies, you put the cover off your door handle to reveal the keyhole.

To start your car, simply hold the keyfob directly against the start button and you'll be all set.

 

This can be done without tools?

 

you can use the mechanical key to open the door, then tap the key with the start button to start the car

 

How does the cover come off to reveal the mechanical keyhole?

If some of my questions are retarded its because I don't actually have my car until next week. I guess the dealer will go over this stuff but I like learning in advance.

 

There is a key slot underneath your door handle. Take the mechanical key, stick it in and pop off the cover. Then you will see the actual keyhole to open the door.

dont worry, i wondered the same thing for the first 2 weeks i had the car and some one at a my local meets showed me it came in handy when my fob battery completely died.

 

You can also keep a spare battery in the tool kit in the trunk, open the trunk with the mechanical key, replace the battery, and go.

 

Keeping a battery in the trunk isn't a bad idea, but wouldnt the temperature changes of being parked outside mean it's probably not going to work in a couple of years of being in the trunk? I have not had good luck with other batteries left in my trunk for long periods of time that are subject to hot/cold weather cycles.

Another thing, when I left my Nissan keyfob in my pants through the wash, I tried replacing the battery and it wasn't enough.. the water borked the entire keyfob.

 

Leave it in the glove compartment and it should be fine.

I had a friend who had the car for 3 years and she didn't know there was a key within the fob until I show her. lol
