If the key FOB dies can you start the IS?
I know you can use the key to open the door, but is it possible to start the car w/ dead batteries in the Key FOB?

From what i know, you can still start the car if you hold the key fob near the start button

I'm pretty sure you can, I doubt they would design a key that doesn't work after the battery dies.

Just like the doors, you pop off the cover of the start button and there is a slot for the key to go into.

No there isn't.... you hold the "dead" fob right up to the start button and it'll start. Pretty sure it's in the owners manual too.

Actually, there is nothing behind the push start button to insert the key into. There is a TSIB(L-SB-0161-08 Smart Key Intermittent No Crank/No Start), where they replace the push start button, and there is no slot behind the button to insert the key into. You simply hold your key fob, with the dead battery, right up to the start button, and it will light up and you can start the car. I've done this several times to some cars that come in for service and so far it's working as intended.

You hold the fob touching the start button and push it.--it works, I've done it. Even with the battery dead, it throws off a little signal

You cannot insert anything into the start button. On the driver side door handle you can pop off the cover and put the key in there, but no where else.

Yeah there is nothing to insert behind the buttom, and plus it too of a hassle... Just hold the dead key fob close to the start button and turn on the car like you regularly would...

Here is some proof

WTF? No. Did you just come up with this all on your own? What is the deal with people like you just blatantly spouting misinformation? Wow.

Yeah, roite. This isn't a Mercedes-Benz where the push start button is a dinky plastic attachment..

Nope, that's not how it works. It uses passive RFID. When you hold it next to the start button, the reader generates a strong electromagnetic field that induces a current in a coil in the fob, which powers the dead key long enough to start the engine.

Most electric toothbrushes are charged this way. No direct electrical connection -- the charging base induces a current in a coil in the toothbrush handle.

Quick Reply: If the key FOB dies can you start...
