This was the best $25 ever spend....I literally felt the difference as soon as I started the car...

Default Air Bag Reprogramming Concern

I purchased the kit from Sewell to put into my 06 IS250. I already had my car in the shop for D4S bulb replacement so I gave them the dampener to put in for me.
The mechanic was concerned that disconnecting the air bag to install this would require some sort of reprogramming procedure. I told them not to worry about it and that I'd install it myself.

Is there any reprogramming necessary after disconnecting the air bag? Can someone absolutely confirm by saying they've had them operate/deploy successfully in a crash after having installed this mod?

This thread from 2 years ago just helped me install my new steering wheel. I was stuck on removing the airbag and didnt want to damage anything... Thanks Jason.

I picked one up at the local Toyota/Lexus dealer. Carson Toyota to be exact, I told them I was a clublexus memeber and they gave me a pretty good discount. I think it was a bit cheaper than getting it shipped from sewell. Anyways, it was a bit of a trick to install at first but i did it. Not much of a tighter feel but less of a vibration from the road when driving. It's like throwing in a strut bar in the car. It doesn't really DO much for the car but it's a very inexpensive mod.

Default Installation on IS250 AWD

The Sewell video for the steering wheel replacement doesn't seem to apply to my car. I don't have panels to remove on the steering column. Any advice?
Also, is there any reprogramming necessary after disconnecting/reconnecting the air bag?

The panels are on the steering wheel, not the column, and all IS models have them.

What Jeff said. The panel on the left is pretty obvious. The panel on the right side of the steering wheel is a little more difficult to notice. As far as reprogramming, I didn't do anything other than reconnect it. I've never gotten a warning light or anything so I'm assuming all is well.

Thanks guys for all your threads. I learned from all of you on how to add on the steering damper for my 09 IS AWD. I didn't even had to disconnect the battery as some suggested to do as a precaution. The only thing that took me long to install was when trying to install the wires back to the airbag without the airbag facing me.

I first had my wife drive the car today without telling her that I modified our car, and she noticed the vibration was not so severe unlike before the installation. And she liked it. I then drove back on the way home, and I too noticed the difference, For those who said its not a drastic change on the feel of car, Yes I agree. I still feel front sway bars are in order for my car.

Didn't think I'd notice a difference either, albeit small, it's there and is noticeable. Totally worth doing.

It's not a night and day difference but for the $26 or whatever it costs I thought it was worth it.

You can definitely feel the difference for the first few days. Once you get used to it, you won't even notice its there.
