If the RPMs are too high, it will not downshift until it reaches a safe RPM.

^what he said.

it's not a DSG/SMG. it's still controlled by the car. can't override it.

he siad he can downshift with shift gear, just not paddle. check ur wire connections to see if they are plugged in all the way.. if yes... take it to a dealership to get it checked out.

I rarely use the paddle shifter, but if it really bugs you bring it in for a check. That's the easiest way to go.

If you know how to use a multi-meter, you can check the paddle/switch itself by first checking to see if there is a signal (voltage) going to the paddle. If there is, trigger the paddle isolating and check if the signal passes through the switch. You can verify if the paddle is defective by isolating the paddle/switch (unplugging all wires to paddle) and check for continuity while triggering the paddle.

if all else fails, reset the ECU, maybe a long shot, but doesnt hurt to try.

If you do not have voltage going to the paddle/switch then it could be a fuse but one paddle is working. If there is no voltage to the switch and the fuse is good I think it may be time to have a Tech look at it. This circuit is interlocked with the trans and engine cpu as not to allow the trans to downshift if the RPMs are too high.

Just a guess, but I would think the paddle/switch is bad (Mechanical parts are first to fail).

You could have avoided replacing the paddles by checking them with a meter. You can poke and hope and waste money and time forever. There are many factors that must be met before the trans is allowed to downshift. Time for Tech to take a look!
