Default Reversing while on D?

Hey guys. I was just wondering but, on our (P,R,N,D+-) shifter, what would happen while going 60mph, and suddenly someone would move the shift gauge to the reverse?

Just a scary thought on this "what if" type of situation. While I was driving my friend "accidentaly" shifted my car to Neutral on the freeway.

Would the car blow up on reverse, or something radical happen? lol

Nothing happens. You will continue moving straight. Don't ask me how I know..(I experimented with the loaner car )

It is almost impossible to put it to R accidentally since the shiftgate is shaped to prevent these type of errors.

props for you to try it out on a loaner car ahahaha (pretty devastive, but very helpful to learn what would happen indeed)

here's a few foreign concepts:

- ask your service advisor.

- ask an authorized technician or your local mechanic.

just because it's not your car doesn't give you the right to abuse it. seriously.

The car would just go into neutral. If you have a NAVI the backup cam comes on though.
Ive tested this out on my own car.

it would be pretty hard to go from D to R considering the N is in the way. the way each is set comes in handy for this purpose. no accidental hitting of the shift ****, but if it ever were to happen, i dont think anything would occur so rapidly. ive had it go from D to N on some occassions, but i just slowly hit the brake so as to not disrupt the car's direction, and then put it back in the correct gear (D).

im pretty sure the tranny knows and prevents anything from happening but if in a older car it can cause some damage.

park u need to depress the brake pedal.

as long as it's not MY car, or a loaner car i'm driving, i really don't care.

however, i'm glad to know that you feel entitled to abuse a priviledge/convenience. you're a winner along with the rest of the 95% who feel the same entitlement as a 2is owner.
