Yes, the body of the 2IS is galvanized. I remember hearing it either from the dealership or reading the brochure. Also, google "IS350 galvanized" to see for yourself.

All sheet metal (on all modern cars) should be zinc dipped (or some kind of anti corrosive chemical). The sub frames and suspension components are what most people use rust proofing for.

I am SO anti-undercoating. It makes working on anything a complete disaster. Plus, all cars nowadays have pretty comprehensive corrosion warranties that extend pretty far out.

OK, the breakdown on rust prevention, from an Ex-Toyota body engineer:

Most portions of the floor and side panels are NOT galvanized steel. Support members along the trans tunnel, in the b- and c-pillars, and the roof are (the high-strength panels).

However, once they go to paint at the factory, they get a rust-preventative e-coat (electro-deposition), which is the stuff that gives you the 7-year corrosion protection warranty. After this the underbody gets asphalt coating for NVH and additional protection. Primer, paint, clear, etc., and you're good to go.

Thats good to know from somebody who work for toyota.
thats why Audi has 10 years on their rust warranty.

so would you still suggest rust proof? or at least after the 7 years?

Pretty much all cars in the US, Europe and Japan have been rustproofed (mostly zinc-dipped) since the 1970's.
