Default 2006 IS350 Navigation Issue

I picked up my 2006 IS350 yesterday. So far I absolutely love the car but I am having issues with the navigation system. The system cant seem to pinpoint my location. On the trip back home (100 mile drive) I couldnt tell where the system thought I was. I got home, went thru the setup, set my home location, even went so far as to try to do the manual spot correction feature but everything still seems off. It now seems to show the general area, but when I start moving it doesnt seem to follow any logical streets and shows me on the other side of the town/county.... Went crusing downtown last night and according to the GPS I drove to the middle of the river then downstream for awhile....

There's a TSB for the navigation on the 06. Just bring it in to the dealer and they will update the disk. Thats what happened to mine last year, it had something to do with the satellite signal.

Thanks for the Info, am I correct in thinking that TSB's are still covered even if the car isnt under warranty?

Yeah, they are still covered. There are 3 other TSBs that they will need to fix also. Give the dealership a call with your VIN and they can tell you if its been done already.

Just called the dealership. They ran the VIN, said that ALL the recalls had been done (listed them as (brake pad due to dust / Steering / and one other i forgot). They said there was no recall for the Navi in my model.

It might be possible someone botched a nav hack attempt. You might want to pull out the unit and see if any of the wires were cut. DO some searching to see what wires to look for. I believe, if memory serves me right, that it is a pink wire....possible w/ a white stripe. But search to find out. The threads show how to pull the unit out. Shouldn't take long to figure out - about 30 min to pull it, inspect and reinstall.

it wasnt a recall on the navi, it was a tsb for the 06 ONLY!! a recall is different than a tsb here is the link to the tsb. Print it and take it to the dealer

you might want to search for a copy of it, b/c some (like brake dust) are not covered beyond warranty. Lexus dealer might cut you a break as a "courtesy" since you just bought it, and it should have been done before.

There it is, right in the TSB--during warranty period only.

Great.... this seems to be my issue and it looks like I'll have to buy a $300 dvd just to fix it.

It sounds more like a setting of the region problem. Make sure to set your nav to the appropriate region/state of where you're staying.

When this happens to mine, I just reload my disk from the service menu, and problem is solved. I like having the override function, so I didn't want a new disk, and didn't want to do the hack.

The car must still be under warranty; just have the dealer fix it!

Just left the dealership. They arent sure if its the DVD or another issue (possibly GPS antennae unplugged). Its not under warranty so I cant get the new disc for free. Right now if I order a disk it will be a few hundred but if I wait til the new September disc the price drops to $199. They recommended I wait since there troubleshooting routine the first step would be to try a new disc. Unfortunately they didnt have a disc around that I could try just to determine if that is the issue. I asked about them pulling the unit to check the GPS plug but they said there was no point in doing that until I get the new disc as the old one is giving errors.

Anyone have any other suggestions besides waiting a month or more for the new disc to be released. A month seems so looooong to have to ride around with a navigation unit that is waaaayyyy off.
