Yeah, i have a IPOD Classic 160GB version. It doesn't work for my year and model (w/ML). The vais tech said it isn't compatible.

well im finally done installing the sl2vi-p4 in my car. comes to find out that my ipod 160GB classic isnt' compatible with my car because it was one of the first gen version of that kind. I only seem to get a black/white picture with audio.

So hopefully i can go to an apple store and they will replace/exhange my ipod for a newer one. Maybe the 120BG classic version, i dont know.

So Does that mean my ipod is defective because the video out is in black/white? or is it just a combination of the vais unit and my ipod? i dont know...

I think somebody from VAIStech needs to get their act together on this... it's not an ipod problem because I bet if you hook it up to normal A/V cables compatible with your ipod it'll output in color just fine....(this would be the way to test it BTW, you can always return the cables after the test)...if you DO have a problem then you can talk to Apple, but I really doubt you will... and the forum rep told us last week they'd never seen a problem using their device and the classic (just the touch) but you've got a tech from the same company saying they're "not compatible"...but their own website -clearly- says they ARE compatible.

Which is odd since the classic outputs video the same way every ipod made in the last couple years does.

Have you tried a different iPod with your SL2Vi-P4? Did it give you color?

wow, that'd be pretty hardcore if the Apple store did that and gave you a new iPod.

I myself just encountered this black and white issue with my iPod Touch 2g 32gb and my 2008 Lexus IS 350 with Navi, No ML.

I bought my car new in January and a few months after put the Sl2vi in. But I had not done the navi hacks yet so (since I had to be parked w/ emergency brake on) I just watched very little video here and there - mainly to show off the capability to friends. It was working fine.

Well I finally got around to doing the navi hacks so that I can watch video on the go. But now after not even an hour of constantly watching, the screen is black and white. I called VAIS and apparently it's an iPod Touch 2g thing. Now I don't know what to do. I have a 32gb iPod Touch 2g which was quite a bit of money. I really don't want to have to replace it w/ a 3g one when it rolls out - if that even solves the problem.

the person I called at VAIS's tech support (Mike) made it seem like it was always there so I'm not sure it has to do w/ the iPod Touch's latest firmware. but I did update recently for $9.99.

I feel a bit misled because I remember in my PMs and the group buy forum I did say what I had and I don't believe vaistech gave me a heads up. but if it is an iPod Touch 2g thing, then maybe no other iPod interface would work so I'd be screwed regardless.

Any chance you can try a different iPod model with your set up?

We have seen this before and it's a combination of iPod and the car display that causes this problem. We are not able to fix it because it randomly happens on certain cars with certain serial numbers of iPod Touch. If you try different iPod and it works in color then I think it points to the problem device in this chain NAV screen--SL2Vi--iPod
