if there was no 3IS, wouldn't the prices of used 2IS go up?

I'm sure the next gen IS will retain a lot of the current IS's form, much like the new 3 Series will too the current one (perhaps a new interior layout... RX mouse anyone?). If a new GS or LS comes out before the IS, some styling ques might hint at what direction Lexus is going with their L-Finesse designs

Default Third Generation

Very curious about the next IS generation. We should be due by 2012, but this is only speculation. Then there are the changes forth coming, very exciting times ahead. What do people expect to see?

The IS, like most current Toyota and Lexus products, is on a five year cycle. That means a new model is due at the end of 2010 as a 2011. If this does not pan out, I'd be surprised Lexus would stretch things out farther than most other brands in such a hot segment.
If I were to make any predictions, I'd say it will be slightly larger with more rear seat room, an evolution of the current family styling theme, and have increased base horsepower with either the same MPG's or better. It's also likely a hybrid version will debut a year or two after the initial release.

No they aren't.

Lexus GS 2nd gen was MY 98-2005
Lexus GS 3rd gen is MY 06-10 (5 years so far) and not expecting a new model till 2012 MY

Lexus SC 1st gen was 92-2001
Lexus SC 2nd gen is 2002-present, remains in product for at least 2010

Lexus LS 2nd gen was 95-00 (6 model years)
Lexus LS 3rd gen 01-06 (6 model years)
Lexus LS 4th gen is 07-now and no suggestion it'll be a 5 year cycle.

Even the IS ran 98-05 for the 1st gen.

I dunno where you get that lexus runs 5 year cycles.

Based on all their other RWD cars the earliest you'd see a 3IS would be Model Year 2012
