I hope it wont end up like BMW with the 3 series and the 5 series, they are hard to tell the difference at quick glances.

well yes, every BMW has the same kidney shaped grills, it's their trademark style...for now.

I think it's fine if every car has a form of the spindle grille... Long as the cars look different from each other.

Just adapt the grille slightly to fit each car!

When Lexus revealed the lf-lc concept at the Detroit auto show, they revealed the front ends of a bunch of new models.

Which one's the IS?

I was wondering if you think Lexus will keep the names IS250 and IS350 when the all new redesign comes out?

Do you also think they will include a new navigation/music system that allows user input while driving or do you think they will carry over the previous navi system?.

Do you think when they release the redesigned IS that it will make us want to buy it right away or do you think it will need to grow on us? I remember when the new IS was released back in 2006 and it was so fresh looking compared to the prior IS model that it caught my eye right away and I knew I had to get one, I waited till the 07 came out but it really had an impression on me back in 2006, collecting all the info I could because it was such a hot looking car. I hope the redesigned IS will convey those same feeling, provide cutting edge body design, warm intimate interior and still keep that youthful sporty stance.

I'd again suggest looking to the GS for clues.

The car will likely have the same joystick-type nav system, which while lightyears ahead of say the 06-09 2IS one, still cripples itself when the car is in Drive and still lacks a number of features a $150 Garmin offers.

Telematics (audio, nav, etc) is one area Lexus is way behind even much cheaper competitors... the Sync system in Fords 1/2 the price of an IS is lightyears better.

And since the GS350 carried over the same 3.5L engine the 350 name carried over too... same will happen to the IS if they don't change engines.

Lastly, again based on the GS, I expect the 2nd->3rd gen differences on the IS to be vastly smaller than the 1st-2nd gen.

Toyota and Honda are known to hide their new products from public eyes until the last minute, unlike Hyundai and Kia, their concept and camo-covered spy shots pop up almost everyday.

I don't understand the time frame above...if the new ES is coming in 6 months and the new IS 6 months after that, this would put the new 2013 IS in Jan-Mar 2013 release date.
Lexus usually gets new models in Fall, usually Sept/Oct
Do you think the new 2013 re-designed IS will be out this Sept Oct 2012? or will they wait till after Jan 2013 to release the re-designed IS
