Err.... the SC430s first model year was 2002... so this fall will just now enter the "old" category of its 7th year of production.

The first gen SC ran 9 years though (albeit not as a convertible)

I think they will be holding off on a redesign also for maybe an extra year or two at least considering the F model and the fact that the coupe/convertible coming out this year will be based on the current model...

this is such a pointless thread...

what do you mean by new design? do you mean completely redesigned like 2IS vs. 1IS? or do you mean minor changes like Audi A4 B5 vs. B6? or extremely minor/almost insignificant changes like '06 2IS vs. '07 2IS with the fin antenna?

asides from the obvious subjectivity of the whole question...there have been no spy shot and no press releases so this what thread and poll is pure speculation

however judging from how Lexus likes to run their busniess they are extremely conservative and always behind the curve so i would guess that a redesign wont happen in the next 2yrs...but then again just speculation.

i would guess minor refresh 2010 ikely (new headlamps, tail lamps, new rims), nothing major but noticedly diffrenet. probably a couple minor interior tweaks - again noticeable but much not different. as for a full redesign figure 3-4 years away, again my guess. i wouldnt expect a major change (such that would yield larger interior) until the major cycle change, which would make it the true 3rd generation IS.

cars seem to be selling OK now, economy slowing down, i would thing they are concentrating on cutting costs and moving product and not upscaling the car much.

although i will say Nav w/o hard drive is starting to get dated fast, since the LS has it maybe this will sneak in.

Im not sure typically after 5 years the car would be redesigned which would be 2001 however the 1st IS ran from 99-05 on the same style.

I've been test driving cars these days.. spoke to two dealers and been asking all kinds of questions.. they said Lexus is mostly going to come out with a complete exterior and interior redesign in either 2010 or 2011 for the IS sedans. Toyoya/Lexus is still planning on sticking to their 5-6 year design cycle. They also said that Lexus is working hard on making their GPS and other gadgets more user friendly.. IS250's HP is expected to go up to 220 or so.. Pricing will still be around $36-37K. I don't know how much I can trust the dealers though..

What'sup everyone..
some news.. I went to the Lexus dealer today and had a chat, test drove the IS-F... and all I can say is that it's a crazzzzy beast on the road... also found out, sometime early next year, the IS300 (the new one) is coming out, with around 240 HP. The design is gonna be the same though... so we'll have 3 cars in the IS lineup: IS250, IS300 and IS350.... Just wanted to let you guys know. The dealer mentioned that the new redesigns are due in 2011/2012.

I'd have to buy this plan most. A minor trim and HP change makes most sense for 2009. And it's usually two model years after that we get an all new car (2011). I also believe the coupe will NOT happen until the redesign. If it were to happen sooner, we would have been seeing more test mules running around out there. And with only 2.5 model years left, it doesn't make much sense to bring it out for such a short run. An entirely new car (body style) needs a longer run to make some money.

i would be surprised to see 3 different engine levels. that is a nightmare for manufacturing. i could see bringing the base from a 250 to 300, but overall i dont think there would be enough to differntiate between 3 cars; actually, make that 4 with the IS-F.

You just forgot three things:

1/ The IS300 does already exist for middle and far east markets.

2/ You forgot to mention the IS220d for Euro markets.

3/ 4 engine levels would still be very far behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

As I mentionned a number of times, we DO need the IS300 in Europe, because the IS350 is not imported over here, the IS250 is lacking power when compared to Gen1 IS300, and there is a huge gap between the IS250 204 PS and the IS-F 420 PS.

Agreed. If they added the 240 hp model, I'd say they'd likely dump the IS250. Audi, Mercedes, and BMW no longer offer three engine choices for their bread and butter entry level cars (the M3, AMG, and S models don't count).
