3rd Gen IS speculation thread
Possible next generation 2012 3IS. I read an article a while back that Lexus is doing a 6 year cycle. Thus, the next Lexus will be for 2012.
From article
The IS likely has been pushed to a six-year cycle, as Lexus takes more of a BMW approach with alternating sheet metal and powertrain changes every three years.
Lexus recently trademarked the names IS 250C, IS 300C and IS 350C (news which was first reported by my.IS back on 24 April - Ed.), which would indicate a coupe is coming. Today, it sells only a sedan. Expect a coupe/convertible to arrive in the spring of 2009 as a 2010 model. The sedan's restyled sheet metal happens for the 2012 model year.
In other upcoming Lexus product news, the six-years-between-major-redesigns pattern will seemingly carry over to Lexus' rear-wheel-drive sedan models, with the LS due for a minor facelift for the 2010 model year (including the spread, as an option, of all-wheel-drive from the LS600hL hybrid to the non-hybrid LSs); an all-new, 4th-generation GS debuting for the 2011 model year; and, an all-new, 5th-generation LS debuting for the 2013 model year. The front-wheel-drive platform ES, given that it will remain, as always, a gussied-up Toyota Camry, will follow that model's five-year cycle. The 6th-generation ES is expected to arrive in the spring of 2011 as a 2012 model. The next generation will offer a hybrid model, borrowing the V-6 from the RX hybrid, as opposed to using the 4-cylinder Camry Hybrid powertrain.

also
if the 3IS was coming out next year
why would Lexus Australia start selling the IS350 at the end of 2010??
doesnt make sense
it COULD be to boost sales of the IS range for a little longer, before the new model, so im gonna speculate the new one comes out around 2013~ give or take

I remember googling for the next gen IS before buying mine. I would've waited if I saw anything new was coming.
Total Sales, US&Japan Total Export
2006 54,267, 10,727 109,720
2007 54,933, 9,514 110,907
2008 49,432, 10,110 93,612
2009 38,077, 5,278 43,369
Sales are down more than the Lexus RX, so I am guessing next 3IS will be at 2012 at the end of the 6 year cycle.

I find it rediculous Lexus would delay a new car in such a hot segment. There really shouldn't be any excuse. The current generation has sold very well and there should have been plenty of time and resources to fund a new model on time. This type of marketing move is a big gamble, as Infiniti and others stick to more traditional update schedules. I hope this isn't a move Lexus will regret. When you have momentum, you should keep it going- not take risks with aging products. This hasn't always paid off in the past with car companies.

chance are, they'll release info on the 3rd Gen IS next spring and the actual 3rd gen will come at the end of the year of 2011.
Well if it makes you feel better, scion release info on the 2nd Gen Scion only in march of this year I believe, and they go on sale at the end of this year...as the 2011 models.
chance are, they'll release the info sometimes next spring and the actual 3rd gen will come at the end of the year of 2011.

Where has Lexus/Toyota been stuffing all their record profits since 2006?
Half of you guys arent making any sense... Why would they release the is-f and 1/2 years later release the vert and change the body style within a year or 2 after that? Obviously the design and current body style is a huge success, hence the release of the is-f and vert. it only makes business sense to stick with the current body style for a while longer to profit on the success of the 2is line. If they updated the body style the IS-f would be obsolete after 2 years of being on the market and from a business stand point again be pointless.
IMO its great that the are updating bits an pieces of the car itself but keeping the awesome lines of the car. Name 2 other cars out there that have such a sexy body.
Ive got plenty of money to get whatever car i prefer, but the 2is always draws me in day after day. I prefer they not change the body style for a few more years, so the modding communtiy can catch up and produce more aftermarket parts.

It seems nothing is planned for the IS until around 2012. In the meantime looks like they have some minor updates for it come this year. This was recently spotted in China. http://info.xcar.com.cn/201006/news_104493_1.html
Make sure to go to the second page. All I can say is the update to the steering wheel looks horrible.
