Cost For TPMS programming?
I got a second set of Wheels and tires - and sensors off of Ebay. I called up a number of places, first the dealer to get a quote on mounting + balancing + programming the sensors.. and first, they said they don't mount tires on aftermarket wheels, and secondly they wanted 130$ just to program the sensors, and another 130 to mount and balance the tires (on OEM). Called up a couple of Toyota dealerships, one quoted me for 270, and one for 160...
What prices have you gotten? Should I try to call other dealerships? Thanks
Also -- the sensors I bought off of ebay were used - does this change the time it takes to "reinitialize them" ?

This dealership (watertown) is horrible. There have been plenty of people here who've had bad a experience with them in boston. I know I can just go to Tire rack and sullivan tire to get it mounted + balanced for 60$. I just didn't know it was 100 or whatever to program the sensors.
This sucks I hate TPMS who really needs I mean really? Who cant tell when there tire is low it just sucks that we have to get it done cause if not that pretty little light stays on and it will drive you nuts!!!!!

I never had mine programmed when I put them in my Volks. I got these off of eBay too. My light comes on maybe ever four or five days and just stays on for about half a day.
I thought there was a way we could program them without the dealership doing it.

I had a set of 20's no tires on them and then bought a set of Yokohama tires. I had them mounted on the 20's and had the TPMS mounted in my wheels as well. Lexus charged me $220 for everything. Get it done once and get it done right and never deal with it again...
My local dealership (Longo) charged me $90 + tax (they felt "bad" so they gave me 10% off the $100 charge) even when I already had the codes in hand. If you normally do your oil changes or any other type of service at your dealership, then I would probably wait until then and ask them to do it. There's a better chance that they'll do it for free since you're already buying something.
Actually, they're not supposed to charge more than $40 for the reprogramming. It would make you sick if you knew how easy it is. We actually sell the machines that do it...It probably takes 5min at most. Anyhow, I think that anything less than $50 is fair. You can also have it done at aftermarket shops, same thing...
^ I could be wrong but don't you have to use a Lexus/Toyota machine to register the #s? For other car makers I know you can get it down at any tire shop with the machine (ie: Acura)...
