No need to wait for a year or two for bugs to be worked out. It's a Lexus, not a Chevy or Beemmer.
I don't think it matters if it's a Lexus or BMW. I've heard Lexus still has the rattle issues even in the 2008 model. No one is perfect and no car is perfect. For example, Acura is very reliable but the new TSX '09 has an engine pinging issue (first year model). Unless you need a car real bad, I would never buy a first year model.. just my 2 cents!
BTW, is anyone aware if the 2009 IS still have rattle issues?

I'd say it's too early to tell. I've had my '09 for about 2 and a half weeks now.. obviously the car is still new but no rattling (yet). haha. hope it's never a problem.

Good to hear
Maybe the new center dash design upgrade might have fixed it. We'll have to wait and see.

Rattle issues are isolated from car to car...sure they will make certain to tighten/torque on any rattle, but you still may find rattle. I had a small rattle on the 06 IS, went to the dealer 2 years ago to do free fix, no rattle since.
The first year 2006 IS has been great for me. No need to be bashful on a first year Lexus.

IMHO, it matters. Rattles are different than some of the problems lessor competitors have had with 1st year intros (engine failures, electric problems, oil leaks, excess oil consumption, etc.).
Proper engineering and testing minimizes 1st year bugs, it can really make a difference. Just my 2 cents. But if a car company can't launch a 1st year car properly, then they might end up like GM or Chrysler (going under).

I agree, 1st year intros of Lexus products are way above average for reliability, especially when compared to the competition. Nobody is perfect, but some the competition has has terrible reliability with 1st year intros.
i think for the 3gen the 350 should come in an optional manual trans. ..or upgrade the 250 to a 2.5 six turbo or maybe just a 3.0 six..or maybe a turbo n 3.0 LOL..turbos are dope shiyyyyt!! but a fast, optional manual, sport sedan ..like a bmw 335 hehee
