My dealer told me the third generation IS will be introduced in 2012, but I can't find a peep about this anywhere on the web. Is this true? If so, wouldn't I be crazy to buy a 2011?

 

 

When it is introduce in 2012 (fall), it will be the 2013 model fyi.

However, i wouldn't want to be stuck with an old model for 4/5 years when the everyone else will be driving the new model.

Seriously... there is no concrete information regarding the next gen of IS.

But there a bunch of speculations at this point. Toyota (Lexus) is keeping a tight lid on this. Noone has any real information at this point.

There was an article about Lexus' future plans in this week's issue of Automotive News, an industry magazine. It says the IS will be redesigned for the 2013 model year, based on a shortened version of the new GS platform. The article was written by Mark Rechtin, who has covered Lexus for years and is usually very accurate in his reporting. So yes, it seems a new IS will debut in two years (fall 2012).

Okay. If the redesign is going to be for 2013, then that makes me feel a lot better. Actually, that's perfect because my lease will end when the 2014's are coming in. I never buy a car in its first year of release anyway. It can be tough to get a good price that first year if the car is successful, and I like to give the manufacturer a year to work out any bugs.

So it'll just be borrow from the next-gen version of the GS.
