Arrow How does one remove the OEM-subwoofer?

My Lexus IS 220d (yes Diesel) current installation:

- Original (Lexus) HUD and amplifier
- Rockford Fosgate 3SIXTY.2
- Front Tweeters: 1 pair of Scan-Speak D2904/6000
- Front Woofers: 1 pair Seas W18NX-001
- JL Audio 450/4 amplifier
- 2x JL Audio 1000/1 amplifier
- 2x SoundSplinter RLp-12 subwoofers (sealed enclosure)
- Cap., 2nd battery, etc.

I am going to change almost everything for different products, for example 3x Stereo Integrity 12" Mag's (the new ones when they come out).

Anyways; I am having a serious problem with rattling in the trunk. I checked and double checked, but it's not gasoline cap. It's really the trunk. So I am going to sound dampen my trunk.

This brings me to the next subject; I understand my Lexus has a standard (small) subwoofer in the back, for better soundflow, is it advisble to remove it (and thus making a empty hole) since I use 3 subwoofers of my own? Or should I leave it and just sound dampen the frame there?

Also when it's adviseable to remove the subwoofer; is there any topic/posting with more information on how to do this, preferably with pictures.

Sorry about my bad English, but I really hope you guys understand what I mean.

Thanks in advance.

Take out the back seats and rear package tray to access the subwoofer.

And will removing the OEM-subwoofer (and leave a hole) increase my sound-experience to the front (driver position)?

One more question; what's better, when using a sealed enclosure:

1) pointing the sealed enclosure with the subwoofers' conus towards the driver

or

2) towards the trunk (so the back of the subwoofer enclosure will point to the driver)?

Remove the factory sub, and while your at it removed the trunk pass-thru lid, it makes a very noticeable difference. Ive had the best luck firing the subs away from you, or towards the rear of the trunk.

Hi HHawk, notice you are from these areas

Impressive setup you have there! I contented myself with a simple aftermarket sub, very happy with that already.

Just wanted to say hello, can't really help you otherwise, but best of luck...

Thanks for your input, though what do you mean with "remove the trunk pass-thru lid"...?

If you flip down the rear armrest there will be a plastic lid that allows you to gain access to the trunk. When you take the OEM sub out you'll hafta take out the back seat, which is the same thing you hafta do to take out that plastic lid. It's 6 10mm bolts I believe.

Okay thanks, I will investigate it.

Any other advice concerning (trunk)rattling?

Not really. I was only running 1 12 W7, so rattling wasn't really an issue.

Hows the dimming with running all that power? I only had 1 1000/1 hooked up and it was pretty bad, but that was with no 2nd battery or caps.

Though you are running one subwoofer, it's still a very good (loud) subwoofer. So it's weird that my trunk is rattling like a madman.

Anyways thanks for your help. I just hope the rattling will be less when I receive the new subwoofers.
