i got another question now but i think ill just make a new thread... hahahaha
I don;t know why you don't just but in CA and have it shipped. A friend of mine did that. Cost <$1K. Didn't have to pay CA tax even. Car has to go right from dealer lot onto the boat to avoid taxes.

i called about 3 to dealerships in california and they all said that i would have to pay california tax with come out to about 9% including luxury tax etc.. im not concerned about the shipping im more concerned about the tax and the wait time..
If your friend can hook me up with a salesman that could help me out that would be great..

What these dealers told you is patently untrue. I've bought my last three vehicles in states other than the ones I registered them in, and I've always paid tax in the state I register the vehicle in, not where it's bought. These salesmen don't know what they're talking about (but what else is new... ) You don't have to pay California tax if you don't register the vehicle in California. You would pay all your taxes in Hawaii when you register your car and get your plates.
^^^i'm not from cali so i can't say for sure (i have lots of friends that are) but i seem to recall that cali will not let anyone remove a vehicle from their state without paying new car sales tax. even if you intend to register it elsewhere. therefore you either have to find a way to get this back on taxes or your resident state needs to recognize that you've already paid the sales tax elsewhere. i think.
I purchased the IS250 AWD without the NAV package. Does anyone know if I can have it installed by the parts and service department now, or am I stuck without it?
That sucks, In Canada the only way to get the NAV system was to get the most expensive package which was like 11,000 extra. I was hoping they could just add it afterwords.
No Biggie, I will just buy a protable one and suction it to the winsheild.

Go to the junk yard and get it from a wrecked car. thats what i did on friends car he has 2001 e430 benz and he didnt have NAV and wanted one,so we went to the junk yard and there was a 2002 E55 with nav rolled over, so we took it from there with the whole center console and went to the audio install place and they did it for us. the whole thing ended up costing him 2000$, now dealer charges 2700$ i believe when you order the car, so whatch out, some of those junkyard guys think they have a bullet and think that NAV worth 5000$ some are reasonable. Goodluck, no pont to change car since you will pay taxs and other fees again, plus value of your car already depreciated from the time you got it off the lot. So as i said the whole center console could be removed and chaged, remeber its like this guy was going to do NAv hack to be able to play movies while in motion, he said that the whole console is being held by 4 screws only after you get the vents out.

This may work on many other makes and models of vehicles, but the NAV and non-NAV equipped versions of the 2IS are substantially different. Because of all the things that are integrated into the navigation unit itself, this would be a project to the tune of $5,000 PLUS after parts and labor, not to mention the fact that you'd have to find a dealership willing to touch this (which you won't). Check this thread for the previous discussion of this topic.
I agree Javy, Unfortunatly this is where buying a car in the US is so much better then here in Canada. There are so many more options in the US.
In Canada there was I belive only 4 packages, and only the 4th package had the DVD navigation. I really didn't want the electronic sun sheild in the back, or the sunroof, or some of the other stuff that the premium-nav package had.
Fortunately Garmin makes some cool portable units.
