No I wouldn't call it common at all. A few people on a message board complained about it.

I've never had any problem with the glovebox or the sunglasses holder. They've both worked flawlessly for the entire time I've owned the car despite removing the glovebox on two separate occasions for different reasons unrelated to the glovebox.

I wonder if the removing and putting it back process helped 'loosen it up' or realign it.

It takes two pushes for mine too and that's after I got a brand new glove box from the dealer. (related to tsb for dashboard rattle the lock was rattling after they reinstalled it)

Never had a problem with it opening. Even in Chicago 15 degree weather.

The trick is to press and hold and it should open w/ one push
