carchitect,

Fantastic writeup! If you had to pay full price for this setup, would you say it is worth the money?

BTW, if the battery is dead the card cannot be programmed to your car. I went to 2 different dealerships with negative results before I realized the battery was dead. After I put a new battery in there the dealer programmed it without any problems. Funny thing is that the second dealer I went to said that the card should be able to be programmed even if the battery is dead. Well, that's not the case with the smart card.
Also, here is my solution to the "how do I get into my car if the battery in the smart card is dead" problem.

Magnetic hide-a-key thingy with a spare battery.

PS. Please don't steal my battery if you see my car parked somewhere

One Smart question was not asked in this whole thread.

If you use a used Smart Card off of something that is selling theres...Will the dealership be able to reprogram it to your car?

Selecting next moves you into programming and this happnes fast so I couldn't shoot pics of it during the programming as I'd liked to.

Hold original key to ignition switch ring as described.

The system will recognize the key and beep. The screen will immediately say to place key on passenger seat and place new key onto the switch

It will beep one more time and mention to place key on passenger seat again and wait for 20 seconds.

Then select registration complete. It will then show the number of keys registered and can be registered.

Select exit and your done.
I know this is very late to the earlier posts, but I have an '07 is250 and would like to have a smart card programmed for it. I tried once before with a dealer, but they said they could not successfully program the card. now, seeing your posts, I am hopeful I can try again and have them do it successfully. I'd like to try to print out the pics (re computer screens) your posts provided, but I am having problems opening the pics on the computer (I get a "404 error" code. Am I doing something wrong or is there any way you can post the images again? Also, any help/direction you can give regarding getting the right type card and having it successfully programmed would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
ptrin
