Default IS350 insurance costs

So as I get closer to a purchase I decide to check with my insurance company, Liberty Mutual, just to see. Not like I'm expecting IS350 insurance to be as high as for my Z06. I shopped long and hard for insurance when I got the vette and Lib. Mut. (my homeowner's policy too) was the lowest I could find, though is goes up each year.

Holy crap! They want $1739 a year to insure an IS350 versus about $1600 on my current Z06. Here's the kicker, they want $1351 to insure a 330i (both assumed $44K total MSRP, not having an actual VIN to rate against, same coverage as my current policy).

What are you guys doing to your IS's to make rates so high? Are they getting stolen, wrecked, or what? Being more expensive to insure than a 330i is understandable, more than a Z06 is just nuts!

you may want to take a closer look at yourself or liberty, don't think it's the car.

I'm 23 and male. Not the best driving record. My old car is a 2000 Camaro that I paid $1100 every 6 months for. I just called the insurance company and to add the IS350 to my current plan is less than 300 more every 6 months. And that is for both cars. Still shopping around to see if I can find a better price.

Could be my region (So Cal near LA) or how Liberty views the IS350. Not me -- I'm married, old, clean record, and their Z06 insurance is still the lowest I can find (vs. Farmers, State Farm, Geico, etc.).

When I called for a quote, the IS350 is so new it is not on their main car list. So maybe they're discouraging it. I know from insurance polls on other vehicles (and motorcycles) that insurance prices vary widely.

doesn't make sense to be so expensive. my sc430 insurance (two names, me and my wife) with 10k aftermarket stuff and also 500 deductible it's only like 1400 a yr (and that's not the lowest i have seen already)

Hi - I am a first time poster. Just agreed on a price for my IS350 with premium and nav. Should arrive at the dealership next week.

Anyways, I have been quoted 900/6months. It is significantly higher than I expected. Out of curiosity I asked how much a BMW 330i would be and they said 780/6months. I don't understand why the rate is so high. I am 38 and have a perfect driving record. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I know the rates are higher here but this is crazy.

I am currently with USAA and may try a couple of other agencies.

Could be the more power that's raising the rates.

JSK97VMI - I think it has something to do with Phoenix - the rates are notoriously high here. I used to live in CT and the rates are even higher here than in CT. What really surprises me is the big difference between the rates for the IS350 and the BMW 330i. I really don't understand that.

It probably has a lot to do with the IS350 being the successor to the IS300, the most expensive sub-$50k car to insure according to Kelley Blue Book:
http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/ke.kb.s...ranceA;article

And the reason why the IS300 was so expensive to insure was probably because it was more of a "cult car", bought mostly by "enthusiasts" and driven "enthusiastically".

Since they have no accident stats for the all-new model, the stats of the predecessor model are generally assumed.

FWIW, IS350 w/ premium package in Los Angeles, insured with USAA — 6 months for $587. .Sure seems to be a lot of variation in rates.
