I think it would be a good idea to link the sound file that someone posted recently that illustrates the noise.

Also, if every who is having the noise were to post the date their car was produced (month/year from label in door jamb) and mileage we could start to isolate which period in production this issue is most prevalent.

If you think you have this noise call your service department. They are well aware of it and this issue was so bad at one point the parts were on back order. Just make sure they replace all seals and the intake and out take cam or else you'll be going back.

I've had mine fixed for almost five or six months with no issues. If you look at the thread *engine cranking noise* which should probably be sticked it explains the noise, where it comes from, and I even posted the parts they ordered from my invoice. If its going to happen you can't prevent it, its a flaw..
I took my car in for this on Saturday. I had been waiting for my oil change to come up to take the car in to get this noise addressed. The service advisor tried to 'convince' me several times that there was no issue with '07 IS350's making noise on start up. I said "ok well here let me use your computer a second and I will show you the TSB I am talking about".

So instead of letting me do that the service advisor went out and got a tech to come talk to me. The tech was great he completely agreed there was indeed a TSB and he would first need to get the car to make the noise inorder to do the work. He also told me that a majority of cars with this issue will make the noise after an oil change due to lack of oil pressure. He said if it didn't do it then i would have to bring the car back during the week so they can keep it overnight and try first thing in the morning.

Luckily, after the oil change the tech started it and heard the noise. The parts are now on order but I was told it could be 4-6 weeks before they get the parts. I was assured that no damage is being done as I continue to drive the car in the mean time.

if no damage is being done is there value is getting it done? seems like a lot of work, is there any downside.

also, if no damage being done, should we all wait until 5.9 years, 65,000 miles or so to get it done to get nice new parts to replace the old ones?

im a little nervous about getting it done. i heard the sound once in a while last eyar when cold, but it seems like ripping the whole engine apart may do more harm than good.

Really?

My noise, when I had it, seemed to come around about the time I needed an oil change. I am glad it worked out for you! If you can't trust your service department to fix the noise ajmtbm, then I'm not sure what you need to do. Maybe you need to look into a new dealership/service department if you're hesitant.. A noise that sounds like that has to be doing something....!

Other than the noise at startup, it makes a rapid tapping sound. That noise is from the injectors according to Lexus dealer and are common on all IS vehicles.

I just brought my IS350 in for the grinding/rattling sound at start up. Going in armed with a copy of the TSIB, I thought I was going to be in for a battle, but fortunately, they were able to replicate the noise one morning, and performed the work indicated in the TSIB. If I'm reading the invoice correctly, it states that they replaced the camshafts. I will still continue to monitor the car to see if the sound is gone for good.

To my surprise, they also performed the brake pad TSIB and turned the rotors without my asking.

I agree with you.

If this noise upon startup doesn't cause any problems them most likely I wont fix it until warranty is almost up. No way I'm going to let them take apart half my engine if this noise doesnt cause any harm.

I switched to 0w-40 Mobil 1 and it's noticably loud at start up, will revert back to 5W-30 to see if it's the oil grade or not.

I have been using Royal Purple, 5w-30 since my second oil change.

Haven't had any problems, yet.

But I can smell the oil being burnt, when I am in manual mode sitting on the rev limiter. lol

Don't really know if its all about the oil, or what?

I would be REALLY pissed off if my dealer did that.
