Default Man..... (special ordering questions)

Was just wondering if anyone who may of special ordered an 08 IS350 and has already gotten it. If so, when was your order placed and when did you get it? My order was placed on 06-20-07 and I haven't even gotten a price from the dealer???? Maybe I am just being impatient.

Thanks

I special ordered my 08 in July (june vs. july wouldn't make much difference for an 08 so long as it was before july 20) and my dealer (who gave me a price before I ordered- it's very weird you'd not have a price already) said it should be here late sept/early october and that he'd know the exact day about 15-30 days before arrival.

Special ordered in June, received verification it will be on the boat Sept 22nd.
To the OP... no price? Didn't you negotiate the price and get it locked in at the time you placed your order?

We occasionally hear of people 'ordering' cars but without negotiating a price. I just can't understand that. If you have a firm committment to buy, and the dealer is actually going to order the car, there needs to be a firm agreement between the two parties as to what the price will be. You will have no bargaining power if the car comes in and you try to negotiate the price at that point. It should have been done beforehand. Do you have a contract of sale from the dealer? Was a deposit put down? Even though they didn't know the exact price they knew the increase was going to be miniscule and they could have factored that into their price, so I don't buy that as an excuse on their part. I'd go down to the store and find out exactly what the situation is. You may find there is no order that has been placed, rather they are waiting for something to come in close to your wishes, then, voila!! Good luck.

looks like the dealer is "finding" you a car instead of "special ordering" one for you....

When I ordered mine I had my exact price (based on 07 pricing) spelled out, with the understanding it'd increase by whatever the 08 price bump was... once the 08 pricing was announced I confirmed my price was what we'd previously agreed plus $200 (the 08 bump).

I guess I shouldn't say exact as we didn't run tax, TTL, etc... just the "car" price... but still close/exact enough.

I have to agree with the other posters: the price is set before the order is submitted. Did you put down a deposit? It would be pretty rare for no price and no deposit on a special order. If that's the case, I'd say they are looking for a car rather than special ordering, and good luck with that. I've found that unless the dealer can find you a car within the first couple of days they just sort of forget about you. If you go in saying you are looking to buy on the spot they are pretty accommodating, but as soon as they realize that they can't satisfy your requirements they just want you out the door as soon as possible. My 2008 special order was ordered in June, and I will be getting it the first week of October. Had an agreed upon price in writing, on the order sheet with all the options, colors, etc. as well as a $2k deposit. By the way if you're looking to special order, make it very clear to the dealer, otherwise they play games like this where they make you think your order is in but it's really not. With a 4 month wait, this is not something you want to take lightly.

Ok sooo.. I call the dealer yesterday and he calls me back today. He says that my IS is on its way, that it will arrive in the US on Sept 26th... However, it will probably be a few weeks before it gets to me. It goes to Cali then to Jersey or some *****? Anyway, he said once that vehicle gets here, he will be able to tell me the exact price of the car. Does that sound right? Thanks in advance.

I'm happy that you're getting it, but not knowing the price? I hope you didn't tell him that you don't care about the price! What is the "ballpark" price that he's negotiating? I would be ready with the price that you would like to pay, and deal with them ASAP. They CAN work with you on it. They have the prices of everything. They don't need the vehicle there to do it.

Go to Edmunds and figure out the invoice price of you car, with the invoice price on your options. From what I have read, invoice plus 6% is a fair price to pay for a car. Of course it's great if you can get lower, but they said this is a fair amount to the comment, "I've got to keep the lights on." That's how I dealt with them when everyone told me that I was ordering a "rare" car and that they couldn't deal with me.

Good luck and I hope you get the car you want at a price that's fair.

The dealer and I spoke about a ball park price of around $42400 and at that time he said it will prolly be a few hundred more for production fees, etc... I think it was $42400 or maybe $43400 on the road. Im not soo much worried about price, I obviously don't wanna get ripped off, but what I really dont want to be waiting all this time for something that hasnt even been ordered.

Your dealer is liying to you. Either they dont have your vehicle or they dont want you to know the price-but more than likely they dont have it and are just trying to buy some time. Japanese built Toyotas/Lexus vehicles come in through the NY port and then are shipped to the dealers. A vehicle hitting port on the 26th of september should be at your dealership in 4-10 days. I work for a Toyota dealership and the process is the same for lexus.

Ask them for a copy of the "vehicle inquiry report". It will list everything for your vehicle INCLUDING the cost.
