I started with a Fuzzbuster way back when and it worked. Instant on came out and then there appeared the escort. That begat K-Band and the Passport appeared.

Evolution my friend. Technology does not stand still

The one factor in our favor is that it is more expensive for the police to upgrade than us. So it usually takes a bit of time for their new guns to get widespread use.

Real simple to see. go get your telephones coiled headset cable and hang it front of your center console. That's what you'll be looking at every day. It is not a pretty site and it is in the way!

I don't think you can get it from Best Buy
I believe you'll have to call Passport and order it

i have all three: v1, 9500i, x50.

the v1 is the best overall, now that i have learned how to totally minimize it of false alarms. it has the better range easily (especially to the rear and on K and Ka). i trust it for laser as well. v1 is in my is350 hardwired.

the 9500i is on my motorcycle, you need a quiet detector without the false alarms. when i'm biking and that 9500i goes it, 99% of the time, it's a cops. if i didn't have a reasonably quiet v1, the 9500i would be the perfect detector. it might have a few problems here and there but overall, not too bad.

the x50 is not for the serious hardcore. it falses too much and doesn't have the best range. use the x50 if you are casual and just need something decent to keep you out of trouble, reliable, decent on all bands. but beware that the best cops might still snag you with the detector. i ran it in my car for a month to feel it out and it's not the best, trust me. both v1 and 9500i are way ahead of x50.

Please describe what you did to minimize the falsing. I would like to do something similar. My new home in Georgia is MUCH noisier than my old home in California.

anyway --- why use batteries when its so easy to hardwire it and have no problems.
I don't use mine on a daily basis, since they're illegal in VA. I only use it when I'm traveling in NC, and it's only as a "safety" [my response to those that state that you should do the speed limit...a detector will likely NOT help if you are excessively speeding, and it is NOT a tool that should allow you to speed; however, it does keep you from getting caught in a trap if you are only slightly speeding....remember, 71 in a 70 is speeding, and only slightly speeding could get you pulled over if you have other "attractive" mods.]

Anyway, I can get a couple of month's worth of use on one set of batteries. Also, I use rechargeable, which means a quick 30 min charge and I'm set again.

Another reason for the cordless: it can be quickly changed from one car to another.

I personally heard the cordless isnt that great cause once the batteries start to die out than the radar detector loses its accuracy.

I've NEVER had a problem with the cordless SOLO II. Where did you hear that, and for what detector?

Anyway, the logical way to avoid it, is to change the batteries when your remaining power gets low. On the SOLO, you get a visual battery power display every time the unit is turn on, and a tone if your power remaining is getting low.

It was for the SOLO and I think I read it over at radardetectors.com, they got soo much info for all the radars over there.
