I/we have been using V1 for the past 11 years in all of our cars and truck. Can't go wrong with V1!

I love my V1's! The Best radar detectors EVER!

How to Reprogram your Valentine One

Did you know you can reprogram your V1 like this and cut down on false alerts tremendously?

The hard to find link at ValentineOne.com

I had 2 V1s, and I agree with your assertion that the V1 picks up signals before and after everything else. However, 95% of those signals are grocery stores, SUV brake lights, or frog farts. I now have an Escort 9500i, and LOVE the extra quiet time. It's so awesome having a cop detector instead of a radar / SUV / alarm / frog fart detector.

I guess the V1 might be tolerable if you disable ALL of the bands. In the 4 years I had V1's, I was only hit with Laser twice, but I had laser falses several times a day.

Stick with V1 or Escort/Bel high end units. BTW, I did a day trip between Houston and San Antonio yesterday and there were no less than 5-7 TX state troopers en-route, especially around a 50 mile radius of Flatonia. All were using KA (instant-on) and all were on the blind side of a hill nailing people as they come over the hill. I passed the first doing 78 in a 70 and did not get pulled over, but then slowed down to ~75 or so afterwards. Be careful, they're out there!

I personally recommend the Escort 8500 x50...I am using one now and it works great! Plus the fact that I could get a model with blue lights instead of red was important. The blue lights look great...

Great feature set and it picks up radar/laser at incredible ranges...love the auto-mute feature and the low-x and NO X band settings among many others.

< $350 as well

I'm getting ready to leave for San Antonio (from Dallas) in a few hours and my buddy's Escort Solo II will be making the trip with me. I really want to get a high end detector (V1 or 9500i) but I just haven't had time to do the research... plus I hate the wired part of both of them.

just a quick question. aren't radar detectors becoming less and less useful as technology continues to advance.. i know there's a new kind of detection out already which radar detectors dont detect just not sure how widespread that new detection is.

The Solo II has (more or less) the same detection "strength" as the 8500, but it is cordless. I have the Solo II and LOVE it.

I know that Escort's detectors can be updated if needed.

Buds, you've seen the wired thread right? I hardwired mine to my rearview. I can help you do this in 5min. Get some beer and name the night.

I agree. I have the 8500 hard wired high on the windshield just under the visor. Fits perfect and with the blue lighs, looks really good as well.

Since both the V1 and the Escort are on the top of the list in performance, I went with the one that looks MUCH better. The V1 is one ugly pig and looks like some kind of prototype that my uncle made in his basement. If the Escort was not as good than maybe, but I have read as many test that has the Escort winning head to head as I have seen the V1 winning. They both are great performing detectors.

My V1 Story...

The above says the story of my experiences. I've been saved more times than I care to remember. I'll also share that Mike Valentine and his little invention are trusted by some VERY well-known vehicle engineers.
