Delayed launch when flooring the gas pedal??

The transmission isn't in first. It has to downshift to first. That's one of the things I hate most about automatics. I still have to tell it what I'm planning to do to make it work best because it can't think ahead. Downshifting to first takes a long time IMHO unless you use the paddles. That's where the delay is.

So when one is using the break torque technique at the 1/4 mile with an automatic he is not only pre-loading the torque converter. He is also making sure the trans is on first? Good to know.

Had my IS350 for 5 Months ove 6K on it never had that problem...May be you should all of had gotten the 350 instead of the 250. Come on... 204hp w/185lbs of torque on a 3,XXX lbs car I think my tC will out run the IS250...even on PWR...hehe.

You're right on one thing. THose tC are suprisingly fast!!! My next door neighbor has a tC and he caught up to me really, really quickly. Surprised me to death. That little 4-banger works hard, but man, the results are fantastic. Somehow, I'm feeling a bit of a regret getting the IS250, but the gas mileage is a little better though for an IS. I'm averaging 30.5mpg right now which is pretty good. The IS250 was never meant to be raced. That's why I'm embarrased at times to get a good takeoff at intersections, thinking that some ricer next to me will beat me off the line, then laughing in my face saying "haha, that IS is a loser car". I just smoked it.....

I agree. Having owned two tCs, the 250 wasn't going to be an acceptable option. The tC even has more rear leg room than the IS...I'd probably still have my tC if I hadn't needed four doors.

phatboy, this thread (and the issue lobux was describing) wasn't about accelerating from a stop. The problem is when you're cruising and see a hole in traffic that you want to get to quickly: if you floor it, there is a delay before you get going because the transmission doesn't downshift immediately on its own.
From a stop, I think the issue you're talking about has more to do with TCS and/or the torque converter. Not positive, though.

Not really. But then I'm comparing to 2nd at 20 psi in my Supra so I doubt the 335 would see much more than tail lights anyway. Something about 250 lbs lighter and another 100 hp or so...
There's ALWAYS someone quicker, faster, and better

Then I say to all that finds a delay to use the paddles. Thats what they are for. To prepare the trans for the action your are about to take. This way no surprises.

Yes, that was what I originally thought too. Use the sport shift. It's pretty much the only fix for better control of the transmission and takeoff. At the momment, I was blurred by the heavy traffic to even think about using it. Just not use to downshifting when I've driven it so much in regular "D" mode.

No, that's not my point. I meant just putting your car in "D" without any gas. HP shouldn't matter here.

Interesting question. I've never paid much attention to it in any car unless it really wanted to bolt as soon as my foot was off the brake. I haven't seen that much since the days of the fast idle cam went away.
