Maintenance Required Warning Light

Does the "Maintenance Required Soon" warning light on the dash typically appear about 500 miles before a service checkup is actually required?

Yes.

But you can disable it yourself, which it would then not follow maintenance iintervals, but rather the amount of miles you've driven...
