Default Engine noise level

Not sure if anyone has brought this up or not but is it me or is the Is engine noise level not as quiet as it should be.

I'm abit disappointed that the engine isnt as silent as the LS/Gs and i'm not sure why Lexus didnt make it so.

Anyone?

errr cuz it's a cheaper, more sport oriented vehicle?

dude, I don't think you'd pay 50k or 75k for a vehicle that's supposed to be uber luxury and get a loud ride.

you pay 30k? well, I wouldn't mind the quiet ride of the IS 250/350.

It's almost too quiet.

Ever been in a BMW 3 series?

The exhaust is way louder than ours and it kinda bugs me.

Or Nissan/Infiniti - the engine/exhaust in all their models are boomy, buzzy and loud. Some call it "connected" whereas others including myself call it unrefined. I think the engine in the [IS350] is very quiet and sounds great especially w/revving high. I’ve driven the 335i extensively and yes it’s a little louder than the IS350 but no where near the levels of, say the G35.

It does however sound like a small diesel though w/idling; which is not all that bad –unique.

I don't mean the exhaust. I meant the engine heard from the outside and when idling.

You probably guessed that i don't have an automatic garage door and to park my car inside i need to get out and open it. THIS is the time when i get all un-is250ly with the engine noise. Even though it doesnt cost as much as the GS/LS, the Is is nontheless a luxury car, and being one, i would think engine noise should be highly addressed.

I think you're referring to the injectors right?

Turn on the engine, step outside and listen for yourself.

Relatively speaking, the noise levels for my engines idle are pretty low, even when cold. I wouldn't say it's anything abnormal, and the only time it will sound louder, will be when the radiator fans have turned on.

The loud clicking noise is the direct fuel injection. Since the fuel charge is injected directly into the pressurized cylinders, it must operate at a much higher psi than with traditional port or throttle body injection, and hence makes more noise.

The IS is not a pure luxury car, it is a luxurious sport sedan, a car that trades off some luxury in pursuit of better performance. In the case of my IS350, it enables a relatively small 3.5 liter V6 to produce an impressive 306 horsepower with a broad flat torque curve, without resorting to turbo or supercharging.

I know what you're talking about. I spoke to the dealer about it, he said it was the injecters. You can't do anything about it

I was just making sure, there's another thread about the engine clicking noise, try searching.

I'm in a GS350.. since my car is in the shop AGAIN.

The engine noise outside the GS IMO is much louder than my IS. Matter of fact my IS at idle isn't really that loud but the fan that kicks on is a killer.

But the nice thing about the GS is you have no road noise or engine noise from the inside.

How many of you heard the noise of a Hybrid engine? I bet you none and this includes me. This is what i'm meaning to say about engine noise whether it's the fan noise or whatever. I am 100% sure that a lexus (if not GS, the LS) is hybrid like in terms of engine noise at idle and no it's not the new Hybrid GS. One of the Lexus features I have always praised is this quietness of the engine

Just pull your IS up to a Chevy anything. You'll appreciate how quiet it is.
