Horror Story
well yesterday night i realized that i was losing air in my tires wrapped around my just bought wheels. so i was guessing "aw man i must have ran over a huge pothole (i live in LA)" so i went home spent about an hour taking off the wheels and putting em back on realizing it was only a nail. so this morning i take it to a local shop thinking it would be convienient. i have never been to this shop and i was sort of skeptical. by the way the shops name is "j*st tires". so i was watching the mech guy working the whole time. he seemed to be doing everything right. so i just minded my own. when i get the car back he gives it to me with a ******ED UP lip. (looked like the wheel went at war with a curb) so i complain and we settle the issue. the manager agrees that he will pay to either fix it or buy me a new lip. so i go "BUY ME A NEW LIP" he goes okay. so i give him my number and leave. he calls me back saying he cant buy just the lip begging me to just have him pay for the fix (the wheel brand new retails for 850 + it takes 2-3 months to ship from japan) so i told him okay. so i ended up going to the shop i thought it would be convinient not to go to in the first place. My day has been shot down by an old man in a jumpsuit who does not know how to use the wheel balancing machine. (everyone be sure to check the wheel machine if the plastic is on the clamps that hold your wheel, in the future. mines wasnt)
that sucks to hear. i have always had really good luck with discount tire co for mounting and dismounting wheels. im assuming that this was a mom and pop type shop. i would tell them to have the wheel repaired and take it elsewhere to be remounted.

that was painfull to read, i had that same issue but at an americas tire.....
I told them it was a reversed mount rim and they mounted the tire face down! They chipped the lip of the wheel, but probably not as bad as yours. Since the wheels were a 6 month wait time they gave me a free set of tires (dunlop sportmax which are not cheap)to compensate me...... can't complain, i was able to touch it up and you can barely see it. But the story is the same, make sure the guy who is working on your wheels knows what they are doing and if the wheels are reverse mount or standard, Im assuming your rims are reverse mount meaning the they face up, instead of down? what kind of wheels were they?
anyway that sucks......
my suggestion is that they pay for the wheel and you go get it fixed, usually rims can be repaired at a fraction of the cost it would be to replace it. Or have them order you a new one. How can he operated without properly functioning tools, that is redicoulous.

Next time, check TireRack - they list recommended installers in every city. Get a list of the top 5 in your area, call each one and talk to the manager to make sure they can work on +size rims with 40/30 series hi perf tires. I went thru this exercise when I had my G Spiders mounted, and would NEVER blindly trust a tire shop just because they are close & convenient . . .
Yea ive always taken mine to discount tire. Never had a problem with them. Sorry to hear your rim got jacked up. Id make his *** pay for the repair or at least a new rim. His *** up your mistake for taking it to him.
yeah he did pay for the damages. definitely. he actually begged me not to make him order a new rim for $850. it would have taken 2-3 months so i decided to take it to my shop where they fixed it up and i told them to write on the receipt an extra 100 bucks. so basically i came up.
