Default Dumb move...

My hood got nicked yesterday, and it was completely my fault.

I was rinsing my car early yesterday morning and lifted my windshield wipers in order to clean the very bottom of my windshield. After doing so, I decided to pop my hood and clean out the seams on either side of the hood (Unfortunately I don't have a garage, so polywogs and the like get caught in the seam on occassion). That's when it happened.

My wipers were still standing up when I attempted to pop the hood. The top edge of my hood collided with one of the erect () wipers. The nick is VERY small, and there's only one, but it's down to the metal. Luckily, I realized what I was doing and immediately closed the hood before more damage could occur.

The damage is ridiculously minor, but it bothers me for three reasons. First, I've read past threads on here advising against doing exactly what I did. Second, I've been extremely careful about scratches, dings, etc. up until this point (the first cut is the deepest, I guess). And third, there wasn't even anything to clean out of my hood seam, therefore making what I did completely pointless.

What should I do now? As I said, the scratch is metal-deep, so I don't feel right simply leaving it alone. I'll post pictures shortly.

My 3 week old IS250 got hit by a pebble that some big truck flinged at my car on Friday night when I was driving down I-10 to Baton Rouge, Louisiana from Houston (I-10 in these parts is 18-wheeler city). It actually hit on the driver's side of my roof, and left a tiny mark down to the metal.

I went to the Lexus dealer in Baton Rouge and got 3 things: (1) Primer, (2) matching touchup paint (smokey granite mica), and (3) Clear coat.

All three come with ballpoint pen tips. I applied the primer, paint, and then the clearcoat (letting each one dry before going to the next step), with the ballpoint tip. It looks fine, and the mark isn't even noticeable.

Just my 2 cents.

That sucks.

That has actually happened to a lot of our members. Let this be a precaution for everyone...

Thats cool, I didnt know they sold those three different things. I might just pick themup just in case. Hope I dont ever do that, but it seems very easy to accidentally do.

The dealer in Baton Rouge actually has his parts department joined with Toyota (both Lexus and Toyota dealers are owned by the same old man). The parts guy sold me some primer and clear coat, along with my touchup paint. Be sure to ask them for all 3.
