Default Emblem - Re mounting Adhesive

Hello,

I am planning on refinishing the emblems on my Lexus.

I would like to know what types of aftermarket adhesive were use to re mount these emblems.

Please kindly share your Dismount and Mount experiences.

- Front L Sign Emblem

- Rear L Sign Emblem
- Rear LEXUS Emblem
- Rear ISx50 Emblem

Thank you

To remove, soapy water or detailer spray and dental floss.

Actually they peel right off easily. Use the floss/fishing line to get it started and then just keep peeling.

Front emblem is a pain, the emblem comes off easily but the old adhesive tends to stick to the mounting spot and its hard to get off so just stay at it.

As for remounting, 3M tape, follow the original spots on the emblem.

For the ISx50 emblem... before you peel it off, go and buy one of those green foam blocks for a dollar at your local craft store or wal mart (wide enough to cover the entire emblem) they are used to place floral arrangements.

use the foam block as a mold (press it firmly against the emblem to push the foam in around the emblem).

now you can use this as a template to properly align your unpinned emblems when you go to put them back on. --there is only one pin on the "S" and the "0", so aligning the letters and properly spacing them is really tough without this trick.

Also, make sure you get the 3m tape that specifically says "Nameplate Tape"

try using an xacto knife and cut the tape about 1/32" smaller than the emblems edges to replicate factory (about the thickness of 2 business cards).

ooh and a blow dryer helped with emblem removal. its isnt hot enough to damage anything, but makes the adhesive a lot more forgiving.
good luck!

Ok. I know the 3M tape.

Did you trim the tape to size?

What tools did you use? Exacto Knife?

i haven't put mine on yet, still waiting for the metal plating guy to finish mine. when i do, i will be heading straight over to hobby bench and getting a packet of the "super sharp" xacto blades. i was thinking of making some kind of template and cutting them and then sticking them onto the emblems after they are to size...
there are a million ways to skin this cat.
