Default Backup Camera Anomaly/Issue

I was driving down my driveway this morning(it's a long driveway, about 200ft) and stopped half way down. I'd forgot my coat. So I stop, call the wife and get one of the kids to bring it out to meet me near the house. As I'm talking to her I put it in reverse to back up to the house. No backup camera is showing of course since I'm on the phone and the screen is used by the phone. Once I hang up, the navigation screen comes up while I'm still in reverse. I would have expected the backup camera screen to come up once off the phone.

Granted, the situation of you on the phone driving in reverse and hanging up still in reverse doesn't happen very often, but still.

That was just an FYI in case it happens to you and you are puzzled for a moment.

no, I think the backup camera is only triggered when you hit reverse the first time. as soon as you press your phone button, or the map button, climate, etc, it's off.

even though i dont have an IS, im sure all the lexus models use the same type of camera and camera system. anyways that happened to me to, i let the dealer know and they said it might be a camera problem cuz whenever you are in reverse the backup camera should always be on. anyways they replaced my backup cmaera under warranty

if this ever happens, stick it in neutral and back in reverse and the camera will turn back on.

Well yea, but i dont want to put my trans through that everytime it happens. I do it a lot because Im always fiddling with my stereo coming out of the driveway. And at other times Im sure. If should just go back to it in 5 sec or something when its in reverse, like it does the map.

Wah, my backup camera stops working if I take a phone call. Good grief. Lexus can't possibly design their cars for every possible preference.
