Default Transmission problems WHAT?!?!??

ok, I went into service today because my check engine light came on, I was surprised when the service guy said “we would need to replace your transmission” , and I said WHAT?!?!?!?? Everyone near by, stared at my like I was crazy. My car is a 2007 IS with 4.3K on it. He went on to say that during when the car got built in the factory some foreign debris or trash got into one of the solenoids and caused this problem and it's better if they replace the entire transmission. I don't know what to do or say, I'm in shocked, this is a brand new car. I do not drive this car hard, I baby my car too much, never put the transmission into any kinda of stress or anything. Any recalls out there on this?

Should I ask for a new one of the lot? I don't know if the car will be normal after the transmission replacement.

Any suggestions?

I wouldnt worry about it (IMO), the only thing that will suck is that you will be in a loaner. When I had my Audi (Manual Trans) it was grinding between 2nd and 3rd...they replaced the transmition under warranty and I never had a problem with it.

They're not going to give you a new car off the lot, that's not how it works. Your transmission needs to be replaced, I'm sure it's rare considering the IS/GS are built in the #1 auto manufacturing plant in the world. When you build thousands upon thousands of cars, once in a while something goes wrong. Yes, it sucks, but it's not the end of the world, and you should be happy something happened now instead of 1 week after the warranty expired.

You should worry only if it needs a new one, and they want to "repair" it, instead.

I'm not casting any doubt on your statement that the IS/GS are build in the #1 auto manufacturing plant in the world, but where did get that info from? I'm just curious.

My transmission went out on my 2006 that I picked up last August. I did not even have 200 miles on the car. The dealership did not have any more 06 models. They actually gave me a 2007 model. I could not have been more pleased with Lexus!

JD Power gave the award for the best automotive manafacturing facility to the site where the IS GS is manafactured. Cant remember the japanese name of the site, started with a Y or J

No, it started with a "T". Tahara.

Flipside's post on this plant: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...1&postcount=25

Not all 2IS cars are made at Tahara. See this thread for a poll:

My 07' is a 350 so it has the automatic transmission in it. I am very pleased with this dealer. The let me drive a GS until they decided what they were going to do.

The 07' had the AFS xenon headlights where the 06' did not. That was the only difference, but they put the clear bra and tinted windows on just like they did on the 06' model. They threw these in for free.
