We all know that the 2nd gen IS is assembled in Japan. I'm curious to see at which specific plant your IS was assembled: Kyushu or Tahara. You can tell by looking at the 11th digit on your VIN: 2=Kyushu and 5=Tahara. I'm guessing it's a 7:1 ratio between Tahara & Kyushu . . .

btw - My 350 Sport pkg - ML/Nav was assembled at Kyushu

 

there are no 5's in my VIN, so I'm guessing Kyushu. Isn't Tahara the legendary Lexus plant though??

I was thinking more in the lines of, which port did your US spec Lexus come to? i.e. Long Beach, Portland, Jacksonville or Newark.

 

There was an article posted by JRuhi regarding 2nd gen production. Dont fret if your ride was built in Kyushu. Kyushu is newer and was built upon lessons learned from the Tahara plant.

For one, you can find your VIN on your purchase order, owner's manual packet, key ID tag, car insurance declaration, etc - you don't need to go out to the actual car.

This poll was created because I have a personal interest in this. My mother was born in Kyushu. One day I would like to go to Japan and visit some of my relatives. Prior to owning the IS, I had no clue that Lexus has a major manufacturing plant near my Mom's hometown. It's just another reason for me to plan this trip sooner rather than later. Now can I have your almighty blessing and permission for this poll ?!?!

 

Mine was produced in Kyushu. 04/06 Built Date.

 

Built at Tahara, Its was also shipped on the mighty vessel the Midnight Sun and was shipped into the port of Long Beach. Ohh I almost forgot the captain's name was Gary
