Kyushu here.

Special ordered and waited 4-1/2 months for my
IS350 Sport package with ML and NAV.
Have had zero problems. (Can't help feeling
that extra attention was given to the build quality
of special ordered cars).

I'm wondering how the number of defects compare,
depending on which factory produced the car.

Here's an article discussing the opening of the Kyushu plant for IS production: IS Production

Based on the article, the seat belt recalls were probably produced out of Tahara, since Kyushu was designed for 'overflow' production, at least for the '06 MY. That would also explain my low production serial #, even tho I have a May '06 build date. I imagine from this point on, Kyushu will be producing an equivalent # of IS's as Tahara, as long as demand remains high for the IS . . .

Even though Tahara and Kyushu are seperate plants, Toyota/Lexus uses alot of the same local suppliers for their plants. I believe Takata still manufactures seatbelts for most all Japanese made Toyota & Lexus.

It's also perception - all the high end Lexus (Lexi - plural ?) are assembled at Tahara: LS, GS, LX, GX, and now the 2IS . . .

Did anyone see Ford's outstanding record in this picture, found in the first of Ryan's posted links:

How is it even possible to have more problems per 100 cars than cars produced? I guess if you have three problems on the same car, it counts three times. Looks like Volvo's are now being "Built Ford Tough" - even if you have to drag it in to get the recall service done... Oh, and by the way - check out how GM actually has less problems per 100 than a certain Bavarian Motor company...
