Default Headlight lingo help!

Well, I've been talking to a guy from Umnitza about installing angel eyes on my IS, and he used some lot of technical terms I don't know .

I already asked him a bunch of technology challenged questions, and I don't want to bother him with more.

Anyways, he said that my DRL's (?) have to be disabled, but what are DRL's ?

Are those the lights that are yellowish?

Also, on the Umnitza website, there was this FAQ:

Q: Can I turn them on with my city/parking light?
A: YES, that is the optimal way to wire them. See Install pictures.

What's a "city/parking light?"

If I wire the angel eyes that way, will they turn on as soon as I turn on the car?

Thanks in advance.

P.S: Please don't start any "BMW poser" flaming .

DRLs are also known as.. Daytime Running lights.
they are the lights that are on as SOON as you turn on your car. (usually the yellowish color)

the city/parking lights are the ones more higher and closer to the middle of the car that turn on when you twist your headlight switch ONCE.

These are what come on when you twist your headlight switch..
0 twist: DRLs
1 twist: DRLs + city/parking lights
2 twist: city/parking lights + low beams
3 twist: auto function

If I wire the angel eyes that way, will they turn on as soon as I turn on the car?
No, they will turn on when you twist your headlight switch once.
and Yes, i do believe this is the optimal way of installing your angel eyes and also getting your DRLs disabled.

I usually leave my lights on the 3rd twist or the auto setting.

So are the "city lights" always on when I have it on auto, or are the city lights the lights that come on when it's dark?

But if I wire the kit to the DRL circuit, then will the angel eyes pretty much be turned on whenever the car is?

I am no expert, but I believe that if you wire the angel eyes to the DRL circuit they will technically be on when you turn on the car and release the emergency brake. Keep in mind that the DRL circuit runs at a lower voltage to dim the high lights that are installed as the DRLs. I don't think this is the correct way to wire them. Stick with city/ parking light circuit.
