Plan on purchasing TP IS350 if the pinstriping is taken off and paint looks good. What is everyone's thoughts on dealers washing/preping the car for delivery? I know some ask the dealer not to touch the car due to concerns over swirl marks etc. Seems like a Lexus dealer would use quality wash mits, products etc. Thanks.

 

i wouldn't want to take delivery of a dirty car. i say let them wash it

 

Whatever you do, don't pay for dealer prep. A close friend that is a former car salesman told me the dealer prep package his dealership usually charged $400-800 for was just a car wash, tire pressure check, and a fluid check (oil, transmission, coolant, etc..). He said most customers never questioned the charge, which was nearly all profit for the dealer. If your Lexus dealer will do the prep for free, then I would let them do it.

 

I wouldn't let a dealer touch my car, especially if it's a darker color prone to swirling such as Black. I'd buy a car without pinstriping before having the dealer take it off.

 

If those stripes are painted on I personally would wait until another car came in with my packages and tell them not to paint the stripes.

Take the risk of them sanding those stripes off? No wai!

Tungsten Pearl is one of the more forgiving colors when it comes to showing swirls from washing and drying. I've owned mine since last August and after many washings I do not detect any swirls of any kind. I'm sure they are there, just that you can't see them. I would not take a car from the dealer in an unwashed state. You want them to clean it so YOU can do a final inspection to see if there are any visible factory or in-transit flaws. You want to document that before you drive off the lot and start cleaning it yourself. If you do discover something after you have cleaned it it becomes a shouting match as to when it happened. Anyway, part of the pleasure of buying a new car is driving off in it when it is in a pristine state.

Let the dealer detail it.
