As for the picture quality, it's as good as it's gonna get for a nine inch screen.

It's very bright and clear; just make sure that if you watch movies at night, you have the light intensity in "day" mode...

unfortunately i do not have the ability to own a ML version of the car.
But upon checking the Marklevinsonlexus.com web page, unfortunately you cannot.

The Deck only supports Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1 For the system to properly support a 7.1 setup, the deck needs to be DD-EX and/or DTS-ES.

Hope that helps.

what do you mean unfortunately you cannot? surround sound is DD5.1 and DTS5.1, DTS-ES, and DD-EX are extensions that add another channel and are not the only two standards considered to be surround sound. your statement is confusing on so many levels my brain just collapsed.

The OP is asking if it's possible to get 7.1 channels out of the ML system. I can see why he wants this as there's enough speakers to do so. Unfortunately the ML deck does not support anything more then 5.1, so therefore the extensions are not supported for him to get any EXTRA CHANNELS therefore 7.1 is currently IMPOSSIBLE.

I've never stated in my statement that DD-EX and DTS-ES were the only surround sound options. I just stated that those are the formats he needs supported to get to 7.1. You are confusing me now!

But if you are talking about other surround sound formats like Logic7, then sorry to confuse you. The OP is asking for what the ML deck supports. Unfortunately even though ML is a division of Madrigal( I think it's called Harman Specialty Group now), the car does not support Logic7 or any other surround sound format.

DrewJ12:
your out of luck right now. You just need to live with the 5.1.

Default standard dvd system

Diff between ML and standard - 7.1 sound in ML, ability to play dvds in ML.

For standard you can't play dvds - and there is no simple hack to make it do so. There was some thread out there that outlined someone's experiences in hacking the standard dvd player - he had to rip of the center console, install a NAV-TV module ($500+ for the part), route the connections to a switch that he flips to switch between Nav hack and OEM connections (since using the Nav hack, the rear camera and nav don't work when you switch from TV - I could be wrong on this part, I'm going by memory).

In the end it came out to be like $800+ for parts, excluding labor (and it seemed like ALOTTA labor).

Hmm...$800+ for parts excluding labor or $900-something for a factory integrated ML DVD player with 7.1 sound... you make that call.

I'm getting a IS250 in So Cal - ML is not really offered in the packages for the IS250 here. I'm outta luck here unless I want to pursue a similar hack. I'm an Electrical Engineer, but there is no way in hell that I'm going to do this hack - props to the guy that did.
