Default Anyone with TINT scratch issues !!!

This has been the third time I have brought my car in to the tint shop as they have innitially replaced both my driver and passenger side tint twice due to a scratch the tint builts up.

I followed exactly what they told me to, don't roll down down your windows for 3 days and it should fine after that.. well did that and eventually it builts this tiny scratches..

Finally they have found that that I need a tint plastic that goes along the whole window grove as they are suspecting the current plastic is actually causing the scratch.. they have similar experiences in some Accord and TL but this was the first case on a lexus model.. I have done my ES330 with them and I really comment their work.. excellent finish and fine detail..

To install this, they will have open all door panels and it is $120 extra.. and they will replace all my tints in all 4 doors.. I am happy overall but just curious if anybody here are facing the same issue??

yeah, alot of the newer cars have tight window seals. when sand or grit gets trapped in it, it will scratch the windows. my brother does aftermarket for a local Acura dealer here. from what i understand the TLs have tight seals also, so they apply a product callled moleskin to the seals. its a suede-like felt that prevents the sand and grit from getting stuck. they usually charge $100-$150 more for cars they need it. ive already got scratches on my tint, so im probably going to have the fronts retinted and have the moleskin added as well next time around.

I have not heard other IS has to do this. Which tint shop is this?

I am about to bring my ES330 and IS350 to tint as well.
Any recommendation in MD/VA?

I went to Picture Perfect (Dobbin Rd, Columbia). I did both my ES330 and IS250 there.. awesome guys.. charge $180 plus if you need the moleskin then it would be $120 extra.

I use PLEXUS on my tint windows. Spray it on, wipe it off with a clean, soft towel and many of the little micro scratches are greatly reduced. It was designed for the aircraft industry where they use a lot of plastics for windows.

It's also great on the plastic headlight covers, or any shiny plastic surface. Although I don't have wood in my interior I'm sure PLEXUS would do a great job in minimizing the scratches that people seem to get in the highly polished surface. I keep a can on hand for detailing my car and bike.

I had a big issue where the lower front end of the window tint always comes off (next to the tweeters) on my passenger side door...as well as the small oval triangular window past the rear passenger window...speaking of which...can anyone completely tint this area?? ...my tint shop says I cant and there's a small untinted strip along the top of this small window....does anyone have completely tinted ??

This worked for me. Doen't hurt to try. Spray the area with soapy water, then use a non-abrasive object to pull up the lower trim. Good luck.

No problem here and I usually do not wash my cars for 2-3 months at a time.
