I may be wrong here, but I don't see how bushings have anything to do with the suspension being "pillow-soft". Solid bushings will prevent the suspension geometry from changing as much under heavy load, and they will transmit a TON more sound and vibrations, but I don't see how they would do much for body roll or "boatiness".

I've done TRD bushings on a car. It didn't change much of anything from a practical driving perspective, but they're high durometer rubber, not polyurethane. Having done this, I would NEVER do it again unless the car is a dedicated track car, and then I wouldn't go with plastic or rubber, I'd be putting control rod ends on everything in sight for rigidity, adjustability, and reliability. NVH (noise, vibration, & harmonics) increase dramatically with harder bushings just like they do with short sidewalls and stiff dampening.
The biggest issue I have with bushings is right at the bottom of my signature. You'll need a closed course and a watch to really see the difference. It's not like you'll increase corner entry speed by 10% so that difference won't be night and day, but it will definitely be night and day on the results sheet. For a daily driver, all it means is more NVH.
