Default HID question

I had a friend install an aftermarket HID (McCullough 6000k) kit a few weeks ago. I noticed that the lights next to the headlines (toward the inside of the car) remain on with my HIDs. I believe these are the DRLs. Is this normal and if not, what might be the problem?

Yes those are your DRL's and also your Highbeans. Everything is normal.

Is there a simple way to make them appear white to match the HID appearance?

You have to change the bulb.

I actually just ordered some DRL/Highbean (9005) and Parking Light (wedge) bulbs from http://www.hoen-usa.com. They should be here tomorrow or saturday.

I heard some good things about this brand. So i'm giving them a try.

There is a thread on here that someone installed the hoens and they look pretty good without the yellow.

If you mean the highlights being used as a DRL then no. Anything you stick in there will look "yellow" when used as a DRL. Its running the low wattage is what's making the bulb look yellow.

06Lex350 There are light next to the "low beam" lights. These lights should turn off when your headlights (lowbeam) lights come on. The parking light (194/168) turns on when you turn your headlights on. This also looks yellow. The DRL lights should only be on when your headlights are turned off.
The best way to check this is to turn on your car and see if the DRL lights are on. Now go and turn on your lights. The place where the DRL lights are should be off. You'll see a light because there is another bulb (parking light) which is a 198 or 168 bulb. This light should not be too bright. You should be able to tell the difference. Hope this helps. In any case, you can replace the Highbeam bulb (9005) and the parking light 194. That should take care of all your problems.
FYI if your DRL lights never turn off the wiring for your HID might not be right.

Okay, I checked it out and now I understand. You're right, my parking lights come on with the low beams and the DRLs turn off. My friend said there is a good blue bulb (parking light) that comes from Japan that is supposed to look white when on.
