Just wondering if one of our European members could tell us what the oil change interval is on European spec models. How many kilometers/miles between oil changes and what spec oil do they recommend?
For example, my previous Mercedes ride called for oil changes at 10,000 mile/one year intervals while in Europe it was 15,000 miles.
When pressed they said Americans are not conditioned to longer oil change intervals.
In the UK it's every 10,000 miles. I was surprised it was that often as most manufacturers are working to 15,000 - 20,000 mile intervals now with synthetic oils.
so the whole 5K oil change thing is just another dealer money maker? i just got my 10K oil change today and switched to synthetic. if possible, it'd be nice to keep it to 10K for every change instead of 5k...
Don't blame the car makers. It's the consumer who has been conditioned by the oil pushers over the years that your oil and filter needs changing every 3,000 miles, which is the interval suggested by the 'Jiffy *****' of the world. Of course the fact that most of them have ties to oil companies wouldn't have anything to do with it. Use common sense and you'll save some money.

are you serious? We use synthetic and they recommend every 5 thousand miles
But our cars definitely don't come w/ synthetic. I would be very wary of going more than 7,000 miles in our cars because only fully-synthetic is made to go 15,000.
The cost of an oil change is chump change. I'll stick with the old school 5000 miles or twice a year.
An we rest our case. Old habits die hard. Just kidding of course.
If you dig deep you'll find even Lexus USA says you can go 7,500 miles if you don't use the car in dusty conditions or something like that. That's the way I'm leaning.
I can get a change with regular oil for 49 bucks or synthetic for 89 bucks and run 10,000 miles. If you figure it out it's cheaper to use the regular stuff and change it at 7,500 miles. Just my take here......opinions will differ I'm sure.
My 92 (Shopping Mall Car) Camry has 107,000 miles on it and does not use any oil whatsoever. I change the oil every 7,000 miles with whatever they have on sale (10/30 grade and a name brand). Works for me....
