Default GS trunk open question

When open the trunk using either 1) the interior trunk opener button or 2) wireless remote control

Does the trunk lid 1) just unlock and stay down or 2) it'll open up to the up position by itself?

Mine just unlock and stays down. The trunk "gas(?)" strut is really tight and requires a little force to open the trunk. Is this the same as yours?

thats how the trunk is designed to work. it will pop and unlatch but you have to maunal open it.

Yes. The trunk unlatches but doesn't come up. The ribbon only serves to pull the trunk closed when you lightly shut the trunk. I'm not totally sure what the purpose of that is, but I still thought it was "cool".

I would definitely find it more useful for the trunk to actually open rather than just unlock and rise up a bit.

I think this would be a great mod candidate. Anyone have any insights into how these mechanisms work on vehicles that have them?
