I also forgot to mention that the total repair bill was $2010 (not including the radar detector). This included the window, tint, door panel, A-pillar cover, inner and outer window frame trim, lower chrome window molding.

It is only a misdemeanor if it is in a driveway or parking lot. What's even more surprising is that they didn't take any of my tools or wheels, which would be much more "liquid".
Was your garage door closed? If so, how did they get in? Sounds like it might have been someone you know or who knew you had a radar detector.

Plus, you live in Texas. I didn't think people broke into each others houses because most people own guns? Only an idiot on crack would break into a house where the owner likely has a gun. Especially for a friggin radar detector!! wtf...

Since they didn't open the door, it couldn't go off since Lexus doesn't put motion sensors in the alarm.

My buddy's A4 has a motion sensor in the sunroof, so when the alarm is set if there is any motion through the sunroof (for example, a hand or arm) the alarm goes off. A very smart feature, and this is a 2002 model too so its not new technology. Kind of surprising Lexus wouldn't have it, for a company that seems tech happy.

My garage door was closed, so they crawled in through a window. I have a tendency to leave my garage door open when I'm home during the day, so I believe they unlocked the window one day when I had the garage open. Anyone I know would have known to get the tools.

My dog and I were sleeping less than 2 feet from my loaded 9 mm pistol when it happened.

Bah.. sorry man... I'm sure they will get what's coming to them eventually... Next time, they might not be so lucky and the owner of the house will wake up...

That's pretty daring to break into a garage to steal a radar detector, and not steal anything else. Stupid people, I tell you.

Damn right. The thief risked his life for a radar detector. Completely insane... Did you guys see that story in the news at the end of last week in NYC in Harlem? A thief attacked an old woman in a wheelchair and tried to steal her purse. Instead, she pulled out a 357 and shot him.

The suckiest part of it was driving a POS rental car for 3 weeks while still paying for my leased IS350. That's a month of use that I won't get back. Then there's the $200 insurance deductible and $400 for the new V1 since insurance wouldn't cover it.

dang you have a huge window for a garage! i rarely ever see windows in a garage (except on the top row of the garage door)... let alone one that big. that window looks so inviting to a thief... and low to the ground too.

Why was the driver's window broken - your car was locked while parked in your garage ??? If a theif breaks into my garage, both cars are completely unlocked, so they can grab what they want w/out damaging the cars. Then again, I don't have windows in the garage . . .

The garage windows are large to match the rest of the windows in my house. The garage is actually in the front of the house.

I am trying to leave my car unlocked when it is in my garage now, but sometimes I push the button on the handle out of habit.

You said you were at home when this happend. If so, then wouldnt you hear them smashing your window?? I'm shocked your dog didnt even bark or anything because dogs have phenomenal hearing compared to humans.
