Default Discolored rotors

It;s been raining pretty much non stop over the last 2 days here in FL and I have noticed that the wheel drums/rotors(directly behind the rim)??? have started to look like they are rusting? Not sure if its actually rust but its starting to get discolored drops of orange on it which you cn notice if you are really close to the car it's troubling to look at. Anybody else have this issue?

I've had this happen to the disk brakes on every car I've ever owned. The surface rust goes away the first time you apply the brakes.

Yes, rust on cast iron brake rotors is completely normal.

All my cars have done the same too...right after a wash or when you and it's raining.

Brake rotors are not stainless steel...when they get wet, guess what happens?

Nothing to worry about. I've owned a total of 7 Lexus cars (2 are in my garage now) and what you've described happened/happens on all of them. The discoloring goes away once you drive the cars and use the brakes.

happens on pretty much all cars (unless you have ceramics or brembo zinc plated rotors)

as soon as you use your brakes, the rust gets wiped off.

Drive around the block and it will be gone. Every car I have had did the same thing.

Cool

I noticed the rust too after I took a picture of my touched up rim.

After three days straight of rain I finally cleaned the wheels last night. Will the brake dust never end??......over 2,000 miles and the brake dust is still bad.

The dust is a function of the pad compound. It's unlikely you'll see less brake dust unless you change your brake pads to a set made from a different material.
