Default Calling all IS owners...Sport Shift Mod Request

It seems we have to make some more noise.

A while back I wrote about preventing an automatic downshift in sport mode while accelerating hard. Since then I've talked with technicians and master technicians. They all feel it would be a simple ECU software fix.

Toyota will only add this as an option if enough of us request it.

So I ask all those interested in the modification to include this request on all surveys and discussions with your Lexus dealer whenever possible. Note: The surveys go back to Japan and are the best mechanism to bring about possible change with any concerns you may have.

Also note: There are romurs that this mod has already been implemented with Team Lexus's IS350 automatic transmission.

huh? When I'm accelerating hard from a stop, my car will only upshift until I let up. If I'm cruising on the highway (5th or 6th) and then floor it, it drops to a lower gear as I would expect it to. What are you talking about?

That means you have never drove a stick shift. I would like Lexus to implement no downshift function to make it a true manumatic trans. I believe Volkswagens do that. I would make it easier to drive with paddle shifters. Its a good idea to let them know.

regards, Bart

I hope you weren't referring to me...this is the first automatic I've owned.

If he's referring to no downshifting while in paddle shift mode unless commanded by the (-) paddle, I'm behind that. They also need to make the upshift work on (+) command too instead of just "highest gear allowed". When I hit the (+) paddle, I want it to upshift instantly.

If there was a widget to improve the speed of the shifts, that would be on the top of my list.

Skorpio's got it. The TSX does this as well and is a hoot to drive in sport mode.

The Team Lexus IS350 Race Car has a real sequential tranny...not an automatic.
